Hello Gary,
Thank you for the clarification, and that actually helps a lot.
Since the Brain was originally created under gary.carter23@ntlworld.com, that explains why your restore attempts kept showing the “no permission to sync” error. The ownership was still tied to the old account.
The method you tried, creating a new Brain under your current account and then adding/importing the old Brain into it, can work as a temporary workaround because it brings your content into a Brain that you own. However, I want to make sure we finalize this in a way that avoids problems later.
Before I advise the final step, I need two things from you:
- A screenshot of the “Which account do you want to sync this Brain to?” dialog (when you can reproduce it).
- This tells me exactly how the system is reading ownership on your side.
- Please confirm whether the version of the Brain on your other device is still intact and opens normally.
- Even if it wasn’t syncing before, as long as it opens, we can export a clean, owner-resettable Brainzip from there.
If the older device still opens the Brain, the simplest and cleanest solution is:
• Open the Brain on that device
• Go to File → Backup to Brain Archive (.brz)
• Enable “Allow anyone to restore from this Brainzip”
• Save the file
• Then restore that .brz on your current account (Or you can create a new brain and import the old brain into it)
This sets your present account as the full owner, avoids permission conflicts, and prevents unexpected sync issues in the future.
No need to redo the resets, your local environment is already clean.
Once you send the screenshot and confirm the status of the Brain on your other device, I’ll guide you through the exact final step to complete the migration safely.
Best regards,
John
