Hello Bert,
Thank you for continuing to document what you’re seeing. Your testing so far has been very helpful.
From your earlier results, we can confirm that:
- A brand new Brain performs normally
- The existing Brain becomes slower over time
- This tells us the behavior is Brain-specific rather than a general performance issue on your system.
Before we go any further, the next important step is to make sure you are on the latest build, since several performance and sync-related fixes are still being delivered through updates.
Please update TheBrain using these steps:
- Open TheBrain
- Go to Settings → Device → Update
- Set Update Channel to Beta or Alpha
- Then go to File → Check for Updates
- Install any available update and restart TheBrain
Once updated, please try the following, treating each as a separate check:
Plex behavior
- Click around to different thoughts in the same Brain
- Use the two-arrow control to expand and collapse the Plex
- Let us know whether the delay feels tied to certain thoughts or happens everywhere
Sync behavior
- Watch the sync indicator in the top right (the two circular arrows)
- Let us know if performance slows down while syncing is active or retrying
Notes editing
- Open a note that previously locked up
- Try scrolling and making a small edit
- Let us know if it still pauses for an extended time before responding
Image pasting
- Try copying an image file directly and pasting it into a note
- Let us know whether it embeds as an image or only pastes as a URL
After updating and reproducing the slowdown once, please send a fresh Output.log captured right after the issue occurs. On macOS, you can find it here:
Finder → Go → Go to Folder…
~/.TheBrain/v9/Logs > Output.log
This will give us a clean snapshot of what’s happening in the Brain after the update.
Thank you again for your patience and for sticking with this. Once we have the updated results and log, we’ll take it from there.
Best regards,
John
