Corrected Link in Case # 98388: TB15 Link Failure Getting log file #98420

https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/98420

You’ve got it, Chris, as long as “Light Sync Attachments” is turned off, a Brain edited in TB15 stays compatible with TB14, and you don’t need a .brz in between (though regular .brz backups are always a good safety practice).

To help us nail the network-drive linking issue you’re seeing, could you please send a quick repro with details?

  1. Reproduce once, then send the fresh log:
  2. • In TheBrain, try linking one file from your mapped drive (the one that fails).
  3. • Immediately go to Help > Open Log Directory and email us the current output.log.
  4. (If needed, you can also find it at C:\Users[your username]\AppData\Local\TheBrain\Logs.)
  5. Share one exact failing path and setup info:
  6. • Full path to a file that won’t link (e.g., \server\share\Folder\file.pdf or Y:\Folder\file.pdf).
  7. • How the drive is mapped (Windows “Map Network Drive,” third-party tool, or direct UNC).
  8. • What the mapped drive points to (NAS, local server, etc.).
  9. • Confirm if folder links on that same path work while file links fail.
  10. Control check (you already hinted this works):
  11. • Confirm that linking a file from a local path (e.g., C:\…) works on the same machine.

With the log and those specifics, we can zero in on what’s breaking the file link flow. Much appreciated.

Best regards,

John
