Thank you for the note, and I’m glad you are enjoying TheBrain 15.

Yes, there is a setting for this.

In TheBrain 15, you can choose what happens when you drag and drop a file into a thought. Please go to:

Main Menu > Settings > User > General

Then look for:

On File Drag/Drop

You can change that setting to control whether dragged files are copied into TheBrain, moved, or linked to the original file location.

If you want TheBrain to reference the file in its existing macOS Finder location instead of creating a separate copy inside the Brain, set the drag/drop behavior to Link.
