FULL MetaDB reset #95416
https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/95416
Hello Lars!
Thank you for writing in.
When we refer to resetting the system, we mean performing a MetaDB reset. This process effectively starts your brain database from scratch, removing any potentially corrupted files. It’s crucial to ensure all your brains are properly backed up, either as .brz files or via cloud sync, before proceeding with this reset.
Here are the steps to perform the MetaDB reset:
Step 1: Reset the MetaDB File
- Navigate to the location of the MetaDB file:
Macintosh HD/Users/[your username]/.TheBrain/v9/MetaDB/TheBrainMeta.db.
(Note: The.TheBrainfolder is hidden by default.)
- To access hidden folders:
- Open Finder.
- Click Go in the menu bar, then select Go to Folder.
- Type
~/.TheBrain(without quotes) and press Enter. - Navigate to
v9/MetaDB.
- Locate the file named TheBrainMeta.db and rename it to TheBrainMeta.db.old.
Step 2: Rename the Brain Data Directory
- Open the following directory:
Macintosh HD/Users/[your username]/Brains.
- Inside the Brains folder, you’ll find subfolders with names like
U00,U01, etc.
- Rename the entire Brains folder to BrainsOriginal.
After completing these steps, relaunch TheBrain, log in to your account, and allow the system to recreate the necessary files, then simply download your brains via the cloud
