04:42:50 - unknown@example.com: I just listened to a tutorial, "Selecting Multiple thoughts". When I follow the steps outlined, the child thoughts of the original parent thought now copied and pasted into a new thought, are still linked to the original parent as well as to the new thought. That is to say, when I click on one of the child thoughts of the new thought, it now has two parents — the new thought and the original thought. I don't want the child thoughts of the new thought to be linked to the original thought. How do I accomplish that?;
04:44:50 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: Hello :)
Reading your question now;
04:45:00 - unknown@example.com: :-);
04:45:56 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: That is quite odd, will test it from my end;
04:46:08 - unknown@example.com: Thx;
04:46:13 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: Please give me a moment, much appreciated;
04:46:37 - unknown@example.com: The tutorial made no mention of the need to unlink after the copy and paste.;
04:48:36 - unknown@example.com: I get this result on both my iMac as well as my Windows desktop.;
04:53:11 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: Almost done with testing;
04:54:18 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: I am back;
04:54:25 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: Thank you for waiting patiently;
04:54:46 - unknown@example.com: No worries. Thx for going to the trouble.;
04:55:32 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: So what I found (or re-learned) was that. If you are doing a "copy / paste" then a true copy has the same parent thoughts (that is the thinking behind what is happening) plus a thought type and/or tag would actually be linked as parents...;
04:55:52 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: But, I did tinker around a bit with some logic;
04:56:02 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: And found a work-around;
04:56:38 - unknown@example.com: Cool;
04:56:42 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: So, here is what I did, I copy-pasted some test child thoughts (like Test 111, 222, 333) then pasted them in a new brain;
04:56:55 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: Then, I copied from the new brain back to the original brain and new thought;
04:57:05 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: And the links no longer appear;
04:57:22 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: But everything in the pasted thoughts (including the notes) are retained;
04:57:29 - unknown@example.com: That would work — good thinking.;
04:57:38 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: In the sense, I can use the new brain that I just created as a template of sorts;
04:57:47 - unknown@example.com: right;
04:57:52 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: For copy-pasting thoughts;
04:58:11 - unknown@example.com: Brilliant work-around.;
04:58:14 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: Let me know what you think, is that work-around good enough?;
04:58:50 - unknown@example.com: It will definitely suit my immediate needs, thank you.;
04:59:25 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: I am glad to hear thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to assist you :);
05:00:22 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: If you have any other questions, feel free to ask here or write to us at support@thebrain.com;
05:00:33 - unknown@example.com: You might want to think about escalating this however to the programmers. Having pasted thoughts linked to the original parent is probably not what users would expect or want.;
05:01:12 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: Yes, I agree with you, will write this up and check on its status from time to time;
05:01:38 - unknown@example.com: Most excellent! ;
05:02:12 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: Perhaps, having the option to paste with and without link to original parent thought;
05:02:23 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: I will see what we can do about it;
05:03:26 - ysuratwala@thebrain.com: In the meantime, you have a wonderful and blessed day ahead!;
05:03:51 - unknown@example.com: Options are generally good, although I can't think of any scenarios in which the former would ever be desired.;
05:04:11 - unknown@example.com: Thx Yahya! You've been great!;
