Regular crashing #95705

https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/95705

Hello Neil,

Thank you for reaching out and for your detailed explanation, it really helps us understand the issue better. Let’s work through this step by step to resolve the problem with your OneNote links and attachment behavior.

The issue may be related to a data problem in your Brain's attachment database. To start, I recommend performing a Data Integrity Scan:

Step 1: Perform a Data Integrity Scan

  1. Open TheBrain on your computer.
  2. Navigate to File (top left toolbar) > Utilities > Perform Integrity Scan.
  3. After the scan completes, check if any issues are detected.

If the Data Integrity Scan doesn’t find anything wrong or the issue persists after completing the scan, the next step is to reset your MetaDB. If it does show and error, please report that back to us as well.

Step 2: Perform a MetaDB Reset

Before proceeding, it’s important to confirm that your Brains are backed up to avoid any data loss.

If your backups are ready, follow these steps to reset your MetaDB:

  1. Navigate to the MetaDB folder:
    • Open File Explorer and go to: C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\TheBrain\MetaDB.
    • If the AppData folder is hidden, enable hidden files:
      • In File Explorer, click View at the top, then select Options.
      • Under the View tab, check Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and click OK.
  1. Rename the MetaDB file:
    • Locate the file named TheBrainMeta.db.
    • Right-click and rename it to TheBrainMeta.db.old.
  1. Restart TheBrain:
    • Launch TheBrain, log in, and let it rebuild the database.

Once the reset is complete, check if the OneNote links and attachment behavior improve.

While TheBrain does not replicate OneNote’s exact structure, you can achieve similar organization using parent and child thoughts. Your example is perfect 🙂

Let me know how the Data Integrity Scan goes or if you have questions about performing the MetaDB reset. I’m happy to assist further!

Best regards,

John
