Timing server sync issue + brains folder rename + Metadb reset windows #96280
https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/96280
Hello Freddy!
Thank you for reaching out and for your patience while we reviewed the issue. It looks like the time on your machine may have drifted out of sync with its time server and recently re-synced, which could explain the sync issue. Since you’re encountering the "Data is missing..." error on startup, let’s go ahead and reset TheBrain’s local database to resolve it.
Before proceeding, please confirm if your Brains are:
- Synced to the cloud and accessible via the web client (https://app.thebrain.com), or
- Backed up as .brz files, which can be restored if needed.
Please verify this first, as the next steps will delete all local Brains.
Once your backups are secure, follow these steps:
- Rename the Brains folder
- Navigate to:
C:\Users\[your username]\Brains - Locate the folder named Brains.
- Rename it to BrainsOld (this prevents TheBrain from referencing any potentially corrupted data).
- Navigate to:
- Perform a MetaDB reset
- Navigate to:
C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\TheBrain\MetaDB. - If the AppDatafolder is hidden, enable hidden files:
- Open File Explorer, click View, then select Options.
- Go to the View tab and enable Show hidden files, folders, and drives, then click OK.
- Locate the file TheBrainMeta.db.
- Rename it to TheBrainMeta.db.old.
- Restart TheBrain and log in again. (This will create a new, uncorrupted database upon restart.)
- Navigate to:
After completing these steps, TheBrain should launch as if it were a fresh installation. You can then import your backed-up Brains or download them from the server if they were already synced.
If the issue persists, please send us a new Output.log file so we can investigate further.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation. Let us know if you have any questions!
Best regards,
John
