Update to #98805
https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/98805
Hello Pat,
Thank you for the detailed follow-up and for confirming you’re on 15.0.96. That’s very helpful.
I’ll go through each point so we’re aligned on what’s expected, what’s still in progress, and what we need to verify.
• Outline View scrolling
Outline View in TheBrain 15 is still under active development. Some scrolling and state-related behaviors are not yet fully implemented, which explains what you’re seeing there.
• Expanded thought states not maintained after restart
In TheBrain 15, expanded or collapsed thought states are currently treated as a session-level UI state rather than a persisted preference. This means they may reset when you close and reopen the app. This is a known behavioral difference compared to earlier versions.
• Expanded thoughts from TheBrain 14 not carrying over to 15
This is expected. Version 14 and 15 are different applications with different UI architectures, and expanded/collapsed states from 14 are not migrated into 15.
• Plex background from 14 not appearing in 15 (desktop)
Plex backgrounds should generally carry over, so this one may need a closer look. Since you’re seeing it correctly in the web client (and in some browsers), this could be environment- or browser-specific. We may need to compare settings or capture logs/screenshots from the desktop app to understand why it’s not appearing there.
• Floating the AI window
The AI panel can be detached using Dialog mode, which is the icon next to the “New Chat” control in the AI panel. That allows the AI to float independently of the main layout.
Regarding the web client observations:
• Differences between Firefox and Comet are consistent with what we’ve seen. Some UI elements (title bar, pinned/recent thoughts, AI icon, right-hand menu) can behave differently depending on browser capabilities. Since those elements appear correctly in Comet, that points to a browser-specific rendering limitation rather than a Brain issue.
• Web client re-indexing on each open
This is a known issue we’re actively working on in the web client. It does not affect the desktop app, and progress is being made there.
At this point, the main items that would benefit from additional data are:
- Plex background missing in the desktop app
- Any remaining UI elements that don’t appear consistently in 15.0.96 desktop
If you’re willing, the next helpful step would be:
- A fresh Output.log from the desktop app after launch
- A screenshot showing the Plex background missing in desktop 15 while present in 14 or the web client
Thanks again for laying all of this out so clearly and for continuing to test across platforms and browsers. That kind of feedback is extremely valuable as we refine version 15.
Best regards,
John
