Finding brains that went away #97573

https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/97573

Hello Lutz,

Thank you for reaching out, and I’m sorry to hear about the trouble reconnecting to your Brains after reinstalling.

Since you're using TheBrain 12 and your Brains are stored locally (not in the cloud), the best next step is to reset your local database, this will force TheBrain to rescan your system for existing Brain folders.

Here’s how to do that:

  1. Quit TheBrain completely

Make sure it’s fully closed, not just minimized.

  1. Navigate to the MetaDB folder on your system:

On Windows:

C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Roaming\TheBrain\MetaDB

On macOS:

Open Finder, and enter:

~/.TheBrain/v9/MetaDB

  1. Rename the file called TheBrainMeta.db to something like TheBrainMeta.db.old
  2. Restart TheBrain

When it opens, it will rebuild the local database and scan for any .brain folders on your machine.

If your Brain files are still on the system, this should cause them to reappear in the home screen automatically.

Let me know how it goes, and if you need help locating the folder or files, I’d be happy to assist.

Best regards,

John
