https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/95945

Hello Barry,

Thank you for reaching out to us. To address the issue you're experiencing, we recommend performing a Brains folder rename and a MetaDB reset. These steps will help resolve any database or local storage corruption.

Before proceeding, please ensure that your data is safely backed up:

  1. Confirm that your Brains are synced to the cloud and accessible via the web client: https://app.thebrain.com.
  2. Alternatively, check if you have .brz backup files for your Brains.

Once your backups are secure, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Rename the Brains Folder

  1. Navigate to: C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\TheBrain\Brains.
  2. Rename the folder to BrainsOld.

(Renaming the folder prevents TheBrain from using the potentially corrupted data in the current Brains folder. This ensures a fresh start for your local storage.)

Step 2: Perform a MetaDB Reset

  1. Navigate to: C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\TheBrain\MetaDB.
  2. Locate the file named TheBrainMeta.db and rename it to TheBrainMeta.db.old.
  3. Restart TheBrain and log in again.

(This will create a new, uncorrupted database upon restart.)

After completing these steps, TheBrain will generate new database and local folder structures. You can then re-download your Brains from the cloud or restore them from your .brz backups.

If you encounter any issues during this process or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Best regards,

John
