Gdrive as a backup #97307

https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/97307

Hello Josh,

Thank you for reaching out.

Yes, directly syncing your Brains folder with Google Drive (or any cloud-sync service like Dropbox, OneDrive, etc.) can result in database corruption. This is because TheBrain uses a local database that is constantly being read and written to while the app is running, cloud-sync tools can interfere mid-operation, leading to data loss or corruption.

If you want to store backups in Google Drive, the safest approach is to:

  1. Use File > Backup to Brain Archive (.brz) inside TheBrain to create a proper snapshot.
  2. Manually upload the .brz backup files to Google Drive for safekeeping.

This method ensures your data remains safe and recoverable without risking corruption.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Best regards,

John
