FULL MACOS METADB AND BRAIN FOLDER RESET/RENAME #101225
https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/101255
Hello Horton,
Thank you for your patience while we reviewed this.
Since the affected Brains are opening correctly in the Web Client, the safest path is to reset the local desktop registration and re-download fresh copies from the cloud.
Before doing this, please make sure that all Brains you need are either fully available at:
or backed up separately as Brain Archive files (.brz). The steps below will make this Mac start fresh locally, so any local-only Brain data that is not synced or backed up should be preserved before proceeding.
Please do not delete anything. Rename only.
Step 1: Rename the local Brains folder
- First, quit TheBrain completely.
- In Finder, go to your local Brains folder. This is typically located here:
/Users/[your Mac username]/Brains- Inside that Brains folder, you should see folders named something like
U00,U01, etc. - Rename the Brains folder to:
BrainsOld- Please do not delete this folder.
Step 2: Reset the local MetaDB file
- In Finder, choose:
- Go > Go to Folder…
- Enter:
~/.TheBrain/v9/MetaDB- Look for this file:
TheBrainMeta.db- Rename it to:
TheBrainMeta.db.old
After that, relaunch TheBrain 15 and sign in with your TheBrain account.
You should now be starting with a clean local registration. Re-download your Brains from the cloud.
Please keep the renamed BrainsOld folder for now and do not delete it. Once everything is confirmed working from the fresh cloud downloads, we can decide later whether it is safe to remove the old local folder.
Best regards,
John
