Thank you for such a heartfelt message, and for being with us since Siggraph 1998! It’s inspiring to hear your story, from your early days as an evangelist to now using TheBrain to support your son’s unschooling journey. You’ve clearly carried the same curiosity and creativity that TheBrain was built for.

Your ideas about local AI as a secondary brain are both thoughtful and very relevant. Like you, many users value privacy and want AI that enhances their workflow without sending personal data to the cloud. The vision of an on-device AI that summarizes, organizes, and adds context to your thoughts, all under your control, fits beautifully with TheBrain’s core philosophy, and is something we discussed at the drawing board.

We’re already exploring ways to bring deeper AI capabilities to TheBrain while keeping user data secure and local whenever possible. While we can’t share specifics yet, your concept of connecting a local model (like LM Studio) or having an interactive “chat with your own Brain” aligns closely with some of the directions being discussed for future versions.

I also love your idea of using TheBrain to document and map an unschooling journey, it’s a perfect real-world application of knowledge mapping. Once you upgrade to the latest version, I think you’ll find a lot of features that can support that vision.
