Hello Gary,
Happy to help with both questions.
For linking your OneNote sections or pages
TheBrain can’t import OneNote notebooks directly, but you can reference any OneNote section, page, or sub-page by attaching its shareable link.
In OneNote:
- Right-click the section or page
- Choose “Copy Link to Page” (or “Copy Link to Section”)
- In TheBrain, open the thought where you want it
- Press Ctrl+K and paste the link
- Give it a label such as “Leatherwork – Burnishing Notes”
This keeps the OneNote page as your source of truth while making it instantly accessible from your Brain.
If you later want to convert portions of your OneNote content into actual thoughts, you can also use our Text Outline Import, which converts structured text into thoughts:

For creating a new Brain from a thought and all its children
You can export a thought’s entire subtree and turn it into its own Brain.
- Select the parent thought
- Use Ctrl+A (or Thoughts > Select Child Thoughts) to select all children and grandchildren
- Go to File > Export Brain
- Choose “Selected Thoughts Only (.brz)”
- Save the .brz
- Go to File > Import and import it into a new Brain
This gives you a clean Brain containing only that thought and everything beneath it.
Here’s a short tutorial covering selecting and exporting multiple thoughts:

Best regards,
John
