AI hallucinate and put wrong thought name #98666

https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/98666

Hello Rick,

Thank you for the kind words, I’m really glad you’re enjoying working with TheBrain.

I can clear up what you’re seeing. You’re not actually stuck in a special “Markdown mode.” What’s happening is that the note contains a plain-text reference string, not a real thought reference.

This usually occurs when a note is created or rewritten using AI and the AI inserts a reference-style label (including a GUID) that looks like a link, but isn’t one the app can manage or edit.

That’s why you’re not seeing the pencil icon or other reference controls, TheBrain is treating that line as normal text.

How to fix:

You can simply edit it manually:

  1. Click into the note to edit it.
  2. Delete the part that includes the reference number / GUID.
  3. Leave just the plain text name, or reinsert a proper link by:
    • Typing [[ and selecting the correct thought from the list, or
    • Copying a real thought link and pasting it into the note.

Once it’s a real thought link again, it will behave normally.

There’s nothing wrong with your Brain, and you didn’t break anything. this is just an AI-generated artifact that needs a quick cleanup.

If you’d like, feel free to send a wider screenshot and I can confirm exactly which part to remove.

Best regards,

John
