Yes, you can change the default behavior for dropping files or folders into TheBrain 15.

Go to:

Main Menu > Settings > User > General > On File/Folder Drop

From there, change the setting to Link if you want dragged files or folders to create links by default instead of being copied internally.

You are also correct that holding Alt/Shift while dropping can temporarily change the drop behavior, but changing the setting above will make linking the default behavior.
