GIFBP

GIFBP is a structure for Value Based Argumentation developed by Bacon and Pugh in their book "Powerful Proposals". It suggests making simple lists as follows:

Goals. What the buyer is seeking to achieve.

Issues. Things that are preventing the Buyer from reaching their Goals.

Features. Aspects of the provider's offer or solution that will address an Issue to enable progress towards a Goal.

Benefits. The improvements the Buyer will enjoy that directly result from a Feature's removal of an Issue.

Proofs. Examples of how this has been achieved in the past or why and how it will work. Substantiation of Benefits and how they were quantified.

In Bacon & Pugh's approach lists of Goals, Issues, Features, Benefits and Proofs are developed in the columns of a table. Argumentation is created by reading across the columns linking appropriate Goals, Issues, Features and so on.
