Kilobyte (KB)
A Kilobyte (KB) is a way to measure how much digital information can be stored, and it's equal to 1,024 bytes. In everyday terms, while we usually think of a kilo as 1,000 (like in kilograms), in the world of computers, a kilobyte is 1,024 bytes. This is because computers use a binary system (a system of counting in twos), and 1,024 fits neatly into this system as (2{10}).
Kilobytes are often used to talk about the size of small files. For instance, a short text document or a small picture might be just a few kilobytes big. Knowing about kilobytes helps people figure out how to store their files smartly, making sure they don’t waste space and can move files around quickly. When files get really big, like videos or large programs, we usually talk about them in megabytes or gigabytes, just to keep things simple.
