Meat Safe Restoration

Anyone remember the days of having a Meat Safe, before the days of having a Frig!

Our shed helped a local restore an old Meat Safe. It was like this...when it arrived.

Restored to this beauty...

Meat Safes were a common thing back in the 1950-60-70's.

Usually it was a cupboard that hung on the outside wall of your house. Attached to the Kitchen or the Laundry wall if you had it on the shady side of the house.

There was a cupboard door inside the house which you opened to get into the Safe compartment, so as to grab what you wanted out of the old style air cooled 'frig'.

It usually had window like wall openings with metal (perforated zinc sheet) mesh in each opening. The fresh air used to blow through the safe and keep your dairy and meat items cool.
