Zarathustra's Cows

(A tale of mine.) ’Twas once upon a time,

But could it really happen? Who would know?

Caught in a dream? To dream is not a crime.

Days follow nights, then nights the days and so

Eventually the repetition reigns

Forever it would seem. The ebb and flow

Gives every reason one should break the chains

Hung ’round our necks. As sense of freedom drowns,

I dream of hope and goodness that remains.

Justified I feel, for ups and downs

Kick hard at times when folly comes to play,

Like little children dressing up as clowns,

Mischief makers, merrily on their way,

Never hesitating in their stride

O’r obstacles, n’er worried what they say.

Past will never change!, the prophets chide.

Quit bemoaning all the bygone years,

Resist! You're not the only one to hide

Secrets from the horde. O’rcome the fears,

The hesitation, take the step. Be bold!

Understand — not all is as appears.

Veni, vidi, vici! Fears controlled

With war-like sounds, but life can never be

Xeroxed for your liking then unfold

Your future. (Once upon a time?) You'll see,

Zarathustra’s cows, ruminating me.
