Create a Brain Tour

Part 1: Desktop
  1. Use the Selection Box Hints & Tips to gather the thoughts you want to include in your tour. If you are able to select these thoughts in the preferred order for your tour, this will simplify the final process of creating the tour.
  2. Right-click within the selection box to copy all of the selected thoughts. Then paste these thought links into a new note. This will be your "Draft" tour thought.
  3. Review your list of thoughts and resequence them, if needed, to make sure they are in the correct order for your tour.
  4. Then sync your brain with the web client.
Part 2: Web Client
  1. Login and navigate to your "Draft" tour thought.
  2. Right click on each thought in the list, in order, to open each thought link in a new tab.
  3. Navigate to your "Brains" list.
  4. Right click on the thumbnail for the brain where your "draft" tour thought is located and select "Activity Report".
  5. Within the "Activity Report", select the thoughts in the correct order for your tour by clicking on the checkmark button. Selected thoughts will be highlighted in green. ☆ Important: I always recommend including your draft tour thought as the first page of your tour.
  6. When all of your tour thoughts have been selected, click on the option to "Export Tour" below the "Activations" display.
  7. Choose the name for your tour. Then save the tour and copy the tour link.
  8. Then sync your brain again.

About Your New Tour

Once your new tour has been created, and the web client has been synced with the desktop, your new "tour" thought will show up in search in the desktop and in Vulcan.

At this point, your new .braintour link will be attached to new thought, with a completely empty thought note.

Important Archive Reminder

At this point, I recommend pasting the URL you just copied from the web client into the note of this new tour thought.

This new thought can then be made private and saved as an archive of your new tour. In the future, this archive may come in handy if you ever want to recreate or rename your tour, or edit the sequence of thoughts within your tour.

Customizing Your Tour

To customize and finalize your tour, simply copy the new .braintour link (from the thought you just archived) and add it as an attachment to your original draft tour thought, which includes the original list of pages in your tour sequence.

This draft tour thought can now be finalized with a custom thought type, icon and label.

I also recommend editing the note of the tour thought to explain the purpose, features and benefits of your tour, as illustrated here.

Sharing Your Web Client Tour Link

When you share your tour link with others, always use the web client thought link.

This web link is accessible in 2 different locations:

Warnings

By default, your new .braintour link will display as a thought attachment, and this attached tour link can easily be activated with a single click. You can, optionally, embed a tour link within a note, but I do NOT recommend doing this for the following reasons:

Never include a link to a tour within another tour. Activating a new tour from within an existing tour will completely replace the navigation toolbar from the original tour.

Never make your customized tour thoughts private, if you want them to be publicly accessible in the read-only (logged out) browser display.
