Thought Aliases
From TheBrain 15.0.621
- Give a thought alternate names such as translations, abbreviations, nicknames or "Smith, John" for "John Smith"; search and unlinked mention detection treat an alias like the thought's name, and the label now counts as an alias too
- Click the Aliases button next to Type, Tag and Icon in the thought properties, then type the aliases separated by semicolons;
Enteradds the next separator andEscapesaves - Search results show the alias or label that matched after the thought name
- Importing Markdown files that include front-matter aliases and is also supported, including resolving wikilinks through them
- Aliases are included in thought data from the API and can be set when creating or updating a thought
- The first alias added to a brain sets a minimum version for that brain: devices running an older version of TheBrain must update before they can open or sync it, so you are warned before the first alias is saved
Remember
- The thought's label works as an implicit alias everywhere an alias is honored, with nothing to set up.
When the same text could belong to more than one thought, a real name wins over an alias, and an alias wins over a label. - More on Labels & Aliases
