My Test Project in Obsidian
★ Important Update: Moving Back into TheBrain
August 2021: After several months of testing Obsidian's publish feature, I've finally decided to move my newly updated v8 project back into TheBrain.
The reasons for my decision are related primarily to the benefits of TheBrain for public resource sharing:
- Most importantly, for both personal and public use, projects created in Obsidian are subject to much more significant size constraints, unlike TheBrain which will allow me to grow and expand all of my shared projects far beyond what Obsidian would eventually allow. < IMHO, this is the single biggest limiting factor with Obsidian.
- TheBrain's current pricing model sets no limit on the number of projects that can be shared either in the web client or in the desktop, while Obsidian requires a separate monthly fee for every published project.
- Not only does this mean TheBrain provides a significant cost saving advantage over Obsidian for anyone who wants to publish multiple projects.
- It also means I can use a secondary (unshared) brain for preliminary display tests that I wouldn't want to put in a publicly or privately shared brain.
- 07.22.24 * Update: This is no longer an issue with Obsidian if you opt to use some of the free hosting options that are available for Obsidian. However, these alternative hosting options require considerably more advanced hosting/programming skills, so they may not be ideal for most novice site builders.
Even though URLs in TheBrain's web client arenotsearch engine optimized, TheBrain'sshort-link URLsaremuchmore user-friendly for sharing than the lengthy Obsidian URLs.< Update: TheBrain's short links are now HIDDEN in the web client, which makes no sense in terms of sharing brain. resources publicly.
★ Obsidian Trial
In late January of 2021, I began exploring options for moving my newest brain project into Obsidian. My goal was for this project to be an enhanced public version of my private (commercial) project from TheBrain 8 which was suddenly rendered inaccessible in late 2018.
