DAY 2 — CREATIVE BLOCKAGE & PERFORMANCE NIGHTMARE
PROTOCOL — DAY 2
SOURCE DATE AS RECORDED
22 April 2025
RETURN TO THE RIVER
The day began with a River check-in, alongside participant-led physical warm-up and games. Do not create separate thoughts for participant-led exercises.
MOVEMENT + VOICE — ON THE SPOT
One performer created movement and vocal sound; the group repeated the material.
MOVEMENT + VOICE — OPPOSITE RESPONSE
The passing exercise returned. The receiving performer inherited the material and responded with what they understood as its opposite. Opposite remained open: rhythm, scale, sound, direction, physical quality, emotion or intention. “An opposite response is whatever the performer understands.”

CREATIVE BLOCKAGE AS OBJECT
“If your creative blockage was an object, what would it be?” The performer named it in no more than two words, created movement and sound, replaced the sound with the name, entered the circle and transmitted the material to another person. The blockage was named, embodied, vocalised, shared and transformed.

PERFORMANCE NIGHTMARE
The group asked: “What stops you from performing?” and “What is your brand of failure?” Examples include perfectionism, public humiliation and self-indulgence. Participants made a performance that “smells and tastes” like their worst performance nightmare. Failure itself became the compositional source rather than something to defeat through a successful performance.
