DAY 4 — 2 OCTOBER — BLOCKING, EMOTIONAL SCALE & PHYSICAL RESEARCH

DAY 4 — BLOCKING, EMOTIONAL SCALE AND PHYSICAL RESEARCH

DATE

2 October 2025.

PREPARATION / GROUP NUMBERS

Stretching, bouncing, shaking, coordinated circle crossing and arriving at the edge together. Instructions included stop, four people walk, ten people walk and one person walks. Trios formed with one standing, one sitting and one lying.

REDUCING SPACE

Space was halved and reduced again, altering proximity, awareness, reaction and group composition.

EMOTIONAL SCALE

Percentages such as ten, twenty-five, fifty and bursts of eighty were used for hope, joy, fear, anger and sadness. One person could carry heightened state while the group responded. Percentages are practical prompts, not psychological measurement.

NINE-BEAT BLOCKING

A scene used nine spatial beats, reset on the next count, furniture/objects, entries from inside/outside and increasing numbers. Participants resisted premature storytelling while mapping proximity, distance, absence, stillness and repetition.

SOUND CIRCLE

Clapping, voice, movement and decreasing volume formed a collective sound structure.

GECKOFYING MATERIAL

Groups taught and adapted choreography through workshop physical language. “GECKOFIED” is participant shorthand, not a formally defined technical term.

PHYSICAL THEMATIC RESEARCH

“How does the current state of the world make you feel?” In pairs, one moved while the other witnessed and maintained safety; the mover explored; images, metaphors, sensations and observations were recorded; thematic words were collected.

WITNESS

The witness observed, cared, maintained safety and shared the beginning through looking and breathing, rather than directing.
