MOVEMENT
MOVEMENT
MATERIAL
Movement is kinetic information.
It includes:
- initiation;
- trajectory;
- body-part articulation;
- direction;
- weight;
- continuity;
- interruption;
- quality;
- physical transformation.
BODY-PART RESEARCH
The workshop isolated:
- head;
- elbows;
- hands;
- chest;
- pelvis;
- knees;
- feet.
One or several parts could initiate movement.
QUALITY
Imagery supplied physical qualities without requiring illustration.
The performer could investigate:
- density;
- viscosity;
- gravity;
- expansion;
- compression;
- softness;
- slowness;
- instability.
SENSATION
Movement could:
- emerge from sensation;
- generate sensation;
- relate to music;
- oppose music;
- exist independently beside music.
NOT DANCE DISPLAY
The instruction “do not dance” did not prohibit movement.
It redirected attention from demonstrating familiar dance form toward investigating the material itself.
