GINA PANE
PERFORMANCE → ANTICIPATED IMAGE
Gina Pane's work is not reduced to pain or self-injury. Here the focus is action, body, photography, framing, sequence, and documentation, including her collaboration with Françoise Masson.
The conventional model is live performance → event → photographer documents from outside. Pane destabilizes this: photographic positions, moments, details, and sequences can be anticipated and discussed as part of the action's structure.
Performance + future photograph are conceived together.
CONCEPTUAL CHILD
[[thought:112c8545-1cd2-44dd-be6f-661003d00c3f|DOCUMENTATION AS CONSTITUTIVE ACT / DOUBLE TEMPORALITY]]
The photograph is not identical to the performance. Action and mediated afterlife are designed as parts of a larger artistic structure.
Action → photographic fragments → selection → sequence → montage → Constats d'action.
Benjamin → technology fragments gesture.
Pane → performer anticipates and organizes that fragmentation.
Live body ↔ mediated body.
Present event ↔ future image.
The camera does not simply record a body. The body can act with knowledge of its future framing.
Performance for the camera here does not mean performance made exclusively for camera: Pane's actions remain live and relational while photography constructs another form of the action.
Relations to Mulvey, Krauss, Benjamin, and Marina Abramović are marked as conceptual unless direct influence is documented.
Removal audit: without Pane, the Brain loses the model of documentation as constitutive rather than merely archival.
