SHARED REFERENCE FIELD

Do not create separate Thoughts for these references.

ARTISTIC AUTONOMY

Art cannot be separated from institutional context, economy, politics, social conditions and audience reception.

BODY / FIGURE

Amy Cutler’s ARMY OF ME distinguishes FIGURE from BODY. Figure is visible/optical form; body includes clothing, space, people, history, social relation and invisible experience.

“The body doesn’t end at the skin.”

AUDIENCE AND GAZE

Manet’s OLYMPIA introduced direct gaze, viewer position, mutual visibility and audience implication.

“I see that you see that I see that you see.”

TRIANGLES

Level 0: do what you want inside the room. Level 1: choose one performer and keep them in visual field. Level 2: choose a second and maintain awareness of both. Level 3: keep both in view and maintain equal distance to each; shifting bodies form a moving triangle.

LINES

The group formed lines according to parameters, beginning with HEIGHT. Later parameters were selected by participants and presented without being named; the audience attempted to identify the rule.

BODY-IMAGE STUDY

Participants investigated the minimum bodily change required to alter an image’s meaning through hands, posture, gaze and orientation.

HOMEWORK

A solo of maximum five minutes concerning oneself, allowing audience encounter, using any medium and without obligatory conventional narrative.
