WRITING FOR THE EAR
WRITING FOR THE EAR
Write for a listener who:
- hears each sentence once;
- is moving;
- is navigating;
- hears the city simultaneously;
- cannot visually rescan the text.
Operational principles:
- write on location;
- use short sentences;
- use one idea per sentence;
- use direct syntax;
- address the listener;
- write in present time;
- measure in seconds;
- speak the text aloud;
- test every instruction physically;
- write every pause.
Language may later become poetic, but initial wayfinding must remain functional.
