PERFORMANCE-MAKING STRUCTURES
PERFORMANCE-MAKING STRUCTURES
FUNCTION
Mart presents structures as tools for isolating one part of performance: gaze, distance, attention, time, decision, memory, manipulation, order, public context or audience reading. No single structure represents his whole practice.
PRACTICAL LOGIC
RULE
→ EMBODIED ATTEMPT
→ OBSERVATION
→ FAILURE OR CLARITY
→ DISCUSSION
→ REPETITION
→ POSSIBLE PERFORMANCE MATERIAL.
STRUCTURE / PERFORMANCE
A structure may be useful to do but uninteresting to watch; difficult to do but compelling to watch; training; compositional material; or a complete scene. Function depends on context.
OUTSIDE EYE
Structures are potentially observed by audience, teacher, camera, institution or accidental passer-by.
FREEDOM
A clear restriction can reduce paralysis and give the performer something concrete to manage.
