1958 Meselson-Stahl experiment
1961 Meselson, Francois Jacob, and Sydney Brenner discovered the existence of messenger RNA in 1961.
1963 Meselson served as a resident consultant in the US Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, where he became interested in chemical and biological weapons programs and policies.
1969 In June 1969 Kissinger asked a former Harvard colleague, Matthew Meselson to prepare a position paper on U.S. chemical and biological weapons programs.
1969 Nixon orders the halt to offensive biological warfare research and weapons stockpiling by the United States. The civilian research continued as did "defensive" biological warfare research.
1969 President Richard Nixon abolished any military practice involving biological weapons and Project MKNAOMI was dissolved.
1972-? Meselson worked with Henry Kissinger under the Nixon administration to convince President Richard Nixon to renounce biological weapons, suspend chemical weapons production, and support an international treaty prohibiting the acquisition of...
1972-Today Biological Weapons Convention (BWC)
1980s During the 1980s, Meselson investigated allegations that "yellow rain" was a Soviet toxin weapon being used against Hmong tribespeople in Laos.

1992 ...it might be wise, now at the very beginning of the real revolution in biology just to put a hold on all the hostile uses of our relatively new science."
1992 ...Studies of non-endemic pathogens. Why are you studying that? You don't have that in your country. If the explanation is reasonable, fine. If not, keep asking questions.
1992 And that is, yes it could be difficult to verify a biological disarmament treaty, although there are things you can look for if you know where to look,...
1992 Matthew Meselson discusses the New World Order in relation to global chemical and biological weapons surveillance to achieve security. "The Chemical Weapons Convention will do all of those things if it succeeds."
1992 Whitehead Institute - Whitehead Lecture 1992: Biology & the Future - Matthew Meselson - Biological Weapons
Citing the physical appearance and high pollen content of samples of the alleged agent, the resemblance of the alleged attacks to showers of feces from swarms of honeybees that he and entomologist Thomas Seeley documented during a 1983 field study...
How to determine or verify someone is cooperating with a biological disarmament treaty (AKA how to determine if one is running a biological weapons program)
Mark Ptashne
Meselson and Paul Doty then organized a private conference to discuss policy issues. The result was a September 1969 paper that not only urged U.S. ratification of the Geneva Protocol but an end to U.S. BW programs.
Meselson has investigated DNA repair in cells and how cells recognize and destroy foreign DNA, and, with Werner Arber, was responsible for the discovery of restriction enzymes.
Meselson's laboratory at Harvard currently investigates the biological and evolutionary nature of sexual reproduction, genetic recombination, and aging.
