born 1942.  PhD in math in 1967 from Cal Berk under Steve Smale on commuting diffeos.
Since 1986 at BU as prof of math.  
 
In 1990  dynamical system.  self-oprganization in physical and bio systems.
with G B Ermentrout... on analyzing neural nets that govern rhythmic motor activity as in
walking swimming breathing... large collections of units each of which is an oscillator.
