Virtual Applied SenseMaker® Analysis
Description
For anyone working with complexity, change, or human systems, this Applied SenseMaker® Analysis training offers a powerful, practice-based introduction to making sense of messy data. You’ll learn how to uncover patterns of meaning, work with narrative nuance, and generate insights that go beyond surface-level conclusions, blending statistics with story, rigour with resonance, and analysis with action.
This training offers an in-depth learning experience around different ways of interpreting, analysing and drawing actionable insights from SenseMaker® patterns and narratives. We will cover everything from the basic principles of sense-making and technical elements of analysis to more advanced statistical techniques and creative, contextualised and collaborative ways of workshopping data. It is a three-session, virtual instructor-led course focused on building your capabilities for current and future SenseMaker® projects.
The course will be held virtually over Zoom on the following dates:
- Wednesday, 13 May 2026 | 14:00-17:00 UK
- Wednesday, 20 May 2026 | 14:00-17:00 UK
- Wednesday, 27 May 2026 | 14:00-17:00 UK
In this Applied SenseMaker® Analysis training, participants will:
- Build a robust understanding of how to work with SenseMaker® data to uncover patterns of meaning, narrative nuance, and complex system dynamics – grounded in principles of anthro-complexity and sense-making.
- Learn how to approach analysis as a generative, iterative process – combining technical fluency with dispositional thinking, and attuning to emergent insights rather than extracting fixed conclusions.
- Practice, in small groups, how to creatively workshop SenseMaker® data, combining narrative exploration with statistical patterns to develop contextual, actionable insights and ethically sound strategies for change.
This includes:
- Core principles of sense-making and anthro-complexity, and how these shape a distinct approach to interpreting data in complex adaptive systems.
- Technical guidance on navigating the SenseMaker® platform, including how to generate reports, read pattern landscapes, and combine quantitative outputs with qualitative interpretation.
- Exploration of dispositionality, pattern recognition, and narrative ways of knowing and learning; understanding how human systems shift not by prescription, but through resonance, amplification, and contextual shifts.
- Techniques for bridging patterns and stories, making visible the narrative threads that shape experience, behaviour, and decision-making across systems.
- Approaches for bringing insights back into organisations or communities, including how to design participatory workshops, support learning loops, and align interventions with the current energy of the system.
- Reflection on how behaviours are shaped by context—and what this means for working with culture, leadership, and change in complex environments.
- How to apply narrative analysis in practice to support adaptive strategy, developmental evaluation, and systems learning, including methods for tracking shifts over time.
Participants will leave with a nuanced, applied skill set for working with SenseMaker®, including technical know-how, analytical frameworks, and creative facilitation techniques. They’ll gain new ways of thinking about change, insight, and action, grounded in lived experience and designed to support learning in conditions of uncertainty. Whether used for internal projects, client work, or community engagement, participants will come away ready to embed this approach in their own practice and contexts.
If you are new to SenseMaker®, this course follows nicely from SenseMaker® Virtual QuickStart, a course for individuals or teams that provides an accelerated way to learn about SenseMaker® on an actual project. However, you don’t need to have done any previous training with us – if you prefer a ‘learn by doing’ approach, this course can be combined with a SenseMaker® license and consultancy package to support your use of the tool and surrounding methods.
