KM Basecamp
In this Knowledge Management Basecamp you will learn how to select and combine relevant Cynefin, knowledge management and sense-making methods to create a portfolio of pragmatic projects. The approach is middle-bottom up rather than starting with idealized plans and conventional approaches to become a knowledge-orientated company. Some more specific questions to explore will include:
- How do we start knowledge management journeys with a sense of direction but open to novelty on the pathway?
- How do we respond with an ecosystem approach to the knowledge risk and impact on knowledge cultures of an ageing and contingent workforce, and the re-figuring of more distributed and agile working arrangements?
- How do we strengthen our ability to learn with a narrative-based approach?
- How do we help to prepare our organisations to better respond in times of uncertainty and stress?
- How do we scale practices and capability? Why best practice is not enough.
- How can knowledge management be more strategic and make a concrete short term difference?
This BaseCamp positions participants to begin with the Cynefin Co’s knowledge management methods and tools and conceptualise and propose approaches to introduce or extend this practice in their organisations. You will leave this programme with an entry-level knowledge of how Cynefin, sense-making and narrative practice apply in knowledge management. In addition, you will have the opportunity to experience working with the Hexi approach and a selection of methods (including SenseMaker®) as they apply to knowledge management to define an intervention or a portfolio of multiple smaller interventions.
It’s going back to basics, not a return to the original, but a rebalancing of knowledge management to recognize the key role of humans, including distributed intelligence and sense-making. – Dave Snowden, on “Rewilding” as a concept
