COM-B change framework
- COM-B is a framework for understanding and changing behavior. It was developed by Susan Michie, Maartje van Stralen, and Robert West in 2011
- The framework identifies three key factors that influence behavior: capability, opportunity, and motivation
- Capability refers to an individual's psychological and physical ability to participate in an activity
- Opportunity refers to external factors that make a behaviour possible
- Motivation refers to the conscious and unconscious cognitive processes that direct and inspire behaviour
- COM-B is often used in public health settings to identify what needs to change in order for a behavior change intervention to be effective
- A diagnostic tool that allows you to identify where the barriers to behaviour are, so you can design solutions that are more likely to influence capability, opportunity, and motivation as needed
