Dear Mr. Tapp:
Since Patrick is leaving, if I were you I would hire a full time, Licensed Art Therapist to fill the position of both service coordinator and property manager. During the past four years that I have lived here, I have formed the opinion that the role of property manage takes little time or effort, and Diane has committed numerous unlawful practices. These Elderly Residents have shared with me severe violations of HIPPA, ignoring requests for repairs or safety enhancements, and 3rd world living conditions. These circumstances cannot continue.
On the other hand, a Licensed Art Therapist at the Masters level, who has experience with the Elderly, knows HIPPA, and Residential or CBRF rules and regulations would benefit both Meridian Group and the Residents. A Registered Art Therapist (ATR) requires the completion of qualifying master’s level education, post-education supervised clinical experience, and references. They must pay nearly $500 to take their State Board Examination, re-certify annually through course work and testing, and maintain their own practice insurance. Meridian Group’s benefit would be greatly enhanced with staff of this caliber.
Why an Art Therapist? Most of the Residents would benefit from Activity in as many different forms as possible. I understand Bingo is really missed around here. Group outings would be nice. Therapeutic walks would be very valuable to several of the Residents. Many of us are creative on our own and would enjoy sharing our skills with our neighbors with an ATR to provide support. An ATR is a trained therapist who can appropriately communicate with the Residents on their needs without compromising their privacy. They know when to push and when to leave it alone. Most ATRs have a love of Art and recognize the valuable health benefits of creativity. When you put these two skill sets together, the world changes.
Should this new person need help getting her feet wet, I live here and would be happy to make introductions and support her efforts in any way I am able. I have 17 years experience in inpatient/psych, outpatient/psych, residential/CBRF/psych, and clinical management/psych and happy to pitch in where I am needed.
I pray my suggestions sit well with you as my intentions are nothing less than honorable.
