M Protein
(pmid: 31505321) The M protein (ca. 30 kDa) consists of a small ectodomain, three transmembrane domains, and a large endodomain (Fig. 4B). The endodomain has a compact globular structure, only the final 20 residues of which constitute an accessible carboxy-terminal tail. The functional units of M are also dimers, which are connected into larger oligomeric arrays in the membrane (Neuman et al., 2011).
interacts with N and allows LLPS on its own
(Lu, Corbett NatCom 2021 PMID: 33479198) We also characterized the interaction between N and a soluble fragment of the M protein, which we find independently mediates N protein phase separation through an interaction with the protein’s C-terminal domains.
