Find in Brain, Improved Note Spacing, and TheBrain Help
Find in Brain
- Brain >
Find in Brain...finds exact text across the brain: thought names, labels, link labels, attachment paths, attached URLs and notes. It doesn't use the search index, so it finds every occurrence, with options for case, whole word and regular expressions
- Click a result, or step through them with the arrow keys or
Next: a thought or link result goes there, and a note result opens the note with the match highlighted
Replace in Brain...opens the same dialog with Replace shown, and the chevron shows or hides it.Replace Allleaves alone anything that changed after the find, and says how many it left
- In Search, choose
Find Exact Text in this Brain...from the gear menu to hand your query over to Find in Brain
- Results are listed 100 at a time, with
Show More, and the dialog doesn't cover the brain, so you can see the results you open
- On phones, both are in the drawer's Actions, and the dialog fills the screen
Improved Note Spacing
Notes now space their lines much as other Markdown apps and web pages do, which makes them more pleasant to read and their structure easier to follow.
- Two lines that both have text, such as two list items, now sit a little further apart than the lines of one wrapped line. An empty line still starts a new paragraph
- Headings get half a line more space above them, so they sit closer to the text they introduce
- Code blocks, dividers, videos, diagrams, tables of contents and embedded notes are spaced like lines of text, and a table has an empty line's space below it
- Line spacing now defaults to 1.4 instead of 1.2. Brains that have their own line spacing keep it
- Set the new "Line gap" in the brain's content settings, from 0% to 40% of a line (30% by default). At 0%, lines are spaced as before
- Thought cards, exports, note versions, Quick Thoughts and the backlinks and unlinked mentions lists follow the brain's spacing
TheBrain Help and User Guide
TheBrain Help, first in the Help menu (under Support on phones), opens TheBrain's help brain on the web- Every help topic is a thought of its own, so you can browse the help the way you browse a brain
- The User Guide thought holds every topic in one note, to read from start to finish, with a PDF of the whole guide attached
Export Notes
- The Export Notes and Print Notes dialog has a compact layout that shows every option at once: the format at the top, and the Include, Callouts and Options choices as buttons you turn on and off
- New Image scale, from 25% to 150%, sizes the images in PDFs, HTML files and printouts without changing the text
- New "Links go to embeds" option, on by default: in a PDF or HTML file, a link to a thought whose note the document embeds goes to that note in the document. Links inside embedded notes now work in the file too
- Tables of contents in a PDF show each heading's page number
Stay signed in to several accounts, such as a work and a personal one, and switch between them without entering a password again. To add an account, choose Switch Users > Log In as Another User... in the account menu
People can now find the thoughts of your public brains through Google and other search engines. To make a brain public, choose Brain > Brain Access and Sharing... and turn on "Allow public access"
DESKTOP Help > Write a Review opens a page where you can review TheBrain. After a few weeks of use, the app sometimes asks whether you'd like to write one. Choose Don't ask again to stop it on all your computers
