SharePoint Services

SharePoint Services provide functionality to individual SharePoint sites from a central location. Because these “Services” are centrally located in the SharePoint architecture, they can provide consistency across all SharePoint sites.

For example, if a list of category options such as departments, cost centers, job titles, needs to be used across several SharePoint sites, libraries and lists, those lists of options (called term sets) can be stored in the Managed Metadata Service and applied to any SharePoint list or library in the organization.
