SHEBANDEWAN
The Shebandowan Greenstone Belt is part of the Wawa Abitibi Sub Province, the world's second largest historic gold producing terrane. Recent studies have recognized that the many showings and deposits in this area are likely part of an extensive IOCG (Iron Ore Copper Gold) mineralized system.
Gold was first mined in the Northwestern Ontario Shebandowan area, at the Huronian (Moss) Mine (later called Ardeen Mine - pictured above) in 1871, following a discovery made by Peter McKellar and an aboriginal prospecting crew. The Ardeen was known for hi-grade production having produced 29,629 ounces gold and 170,463 ounces silver from 143,724 tons from 1932-1936 (Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines Production Records).
The old Tip Top Mine (later called North Coldstream) was discovered in 1872 and mined from 1900-1929, and again from 1957-1967. Historical production from this mine included 103 Million pounds of copper, 22,000 ounces of gold, and 44,000 ounces of silver from 2.7 million tons of ore.
SHEBANDOWAN TODAY
During 2016, the Shebandowan area has once again, become the target of both a staking and acquisition rush, not seen since the early 2000’s.
Previously owned by Pele Mountain, the old Ardeen Mine was acquired by Kesselrun Resources Ltd. (KES: V) in 2016, and during spring-summer 2017, Kesselrun conducted field work on the property and discovered new gold showings, including significant grab samples averaging 1.27 – 6.87 gms/ Au.
The Ardeen (now called Huronian) is located approximately 7 kilometres south west of TGI’s Watershed property.
In December, 2016 White Metal Resources Corp. (TSX-V: WHM) announced signing a letter of intent to acquire the Shebandowan Property from Benton Resources Inc (“Benton”). The Benton claims lie directly south of White Metal’s 100%-owned Vanguard Property located in the Shebandowan Greenstone Belt. In February 2017, White Metals announced a work program consisting of soil sampling over the old gold occurrences to expand known areas and also explore for new targets; to be followed up by prospecting, mapping and drilling of favourable targets. White Metal believes there is not only potential to uncover additional resources but also cobalt potential. From a review of data from the Coldstream mine (now owned by Wesdome) it is believed the mine deposit hosted significant cobalt credits that were discarded in the tailings. Sampling of the mine core by the Ontario Geological Survey (Lavigne, M. and Scott, J. 1989-1992 indicated assay results of up to 0.36% cobalt.
TGI’s Watershed property is situated within 1,300 metres, north of the Coldstream Mine property. TGI will conduct field work, including sampling, trenching and drilling during 2017-18 to determine if cobalt is also present; based on White Metals announcement of historical cobalt tailing results from the Coldstream Mine.
During 2016, Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX: WDO), a mid tier gold producer which owns the Moss Lake Gold Deposit, announced the purchase of adjoining properties; the Coldstream Project ("Coldstream")previously owned by Canoe Mining Ventures Corp. (TSXV: CLV). Wesdome expects to “remain aggressive on the exploration front” during 2017. In a Jan. 17 release, the company said it’s “conducting a full-year ($5 million) 40,000-metre drilling program at Moss Lake in order to evaluate our new land position with the goal of generating additional resources." “Given favourable economic conditions,” Wesdome thinks it could be an open-pit operation that might “quadruple” the company’s gold production. The Moss Lake Gold Deposit hosts an NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate of 40 million tonnes at a grade of 1.1 g Au/tonne (1,377,300 oz Au) Indicated and an additional 50 million tonnes at a grade of 1.1 g Au/tonne (1,751,600 oz Au) Inferred (Moss Lake Gold Mines NR February 20, 2013).
The Moss Lake deposit is situated approximately 6 kilometres south of TGI’s Watershed property.
WATERSHED –TGI has acquired a 12,000+ acre, 100% interest in the Watershed Property, situated 110 kilometres west of Thunder Bay in the Shebandowan Gold Camp. The Watershed property is adjacent to and north-east of the LaRose Shear Zone (LSZ) owned by Tashota Resources Inc. (TRI). The LSZ runs approximately 9 kilometres and probably another 4-5 kilometres through the Echo Ridge property which is 50% controlled by TRI.
Management of TGI has reason to believe that there is a continuance of the LSZ from west to east on the Watershed property, as well as the probability of multiple, parallel shear zones adjacent to the Larose shear zones on the TRI property. TRI has recently acquired a shareholder position in TGI, after TGI became a J/V partner on TRI’s Hemlo South property. The combined Watershed and Larose properties covers over 24,000 acres of prime exploration potential.
During the fall of 2016, TRI commenced drilling near the P1 Trench and LaRose Trench. The first drill hole intersected an “unexpected” high grade gold bearing zone, including 5.65 grams of gold per tonne (g/T Au) over 3.00 metres from 42.00 to 45.00 metres downhole, including 0.50 metres of 27.69 g/t Au. If adjacent samples with lower gold contents are included, a section from 38.50 to 46.00 metres, averaged 2.84 g/t Au over 7.50 metres. TRI also conducted a T-DEM airborne survey of approximately 760 kilometres on the Larose property. Results from previous prospecting at TRI’s Echo Ridge revealed six discovery areas with results as high as 6.97% Cu, 4.5 g. /t Au, 66 g. /t Ag and 0.4% Mo. Such wide spread Cu-Au-Ag-Mo occurrences in the area bodes well for a major drill program to be conducted during late 2017 and spring 2018.
Management of TGI believes the continuing field work and drilling on TRI’s adjacent property, along with proposed late 2017 work on the Watershed property, will provide ongoing news emanating from this area; of a positive nature.
