Perfectionism
Perfectionism
In work, craft, mathematics, logic, art, society, and design, good is never good enough. We should always strive to make things better. Ethics and progressivism would urge to do so and not to accept the status quo.
However in some things, especially interpersonal relationships and in our personal moral failings (of which we are hopefully aware), we can beat ourselves up over things that we should perhaps spend less time looking back at and instead look forward and try to be better next time. Sometimes good enough is really good. And sometimes working on things within our control that we can improve can bring us closer to some kind of ideal, if that is something we are striving for. (See Secular Buddhism.))))) ) )
This is in no way an excuse to allow sloppy thinking, Sunk Cost Fallacy, laziness, etc.
