Universal Scene Description (USD): Stage
The Stage in Universal Scene Description (USD) is a crucial component that plays an imperative role in creating, reading, and editing the hierarchical scene description for interchange between graphics applications.
Overview
- USD's
Stageis the central access point to a composed scene. It provides a front-end to the scene graph, which is a hierarchical data structure that represents the logical and often spatial representation of a graphical scene. - Within USD, a
Stageis essentially a container where all the data that forms a 3D scene, including objects, properties, and relationships between elements, are stored and manipulated. - The
Stageis capable of composing data from multiple sources, allowing for a unified view of an otherwise complex 3D scene.
Creating a Stage
To create a Stage, USD provides a UsdStage::CreateNew function. This function creates a new, empty Stage with a root layer at the specified filePath. If the filePath already exists, it will be overwritten.
