19 Ps 5.9 David’s enemies employed flattery

Psalm 5:8–9 (ESV)

8Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.

9For there is no truth in their mouth; their inmost self is destruction; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue.

The NASB95 of verse 9 represents well the unreliability of what false speakers say: “There is nothing reliable in what they say; Their inward part is destruction itself. Their throat is an open grave; They flatter with their tongue.”
