It is long time for Chris Licht to be terminated from CNN. His mistakes have been many, not the least of which is the ill-advised "scramble" which moved extremely competent anchors and journalists into unfamiliar positions and royally messed up the chemistry of the programming. Licht seems absolutely impossible of apologizing for any of his faux pas, and seems to have his rampant misogony on display—who says woman can't make for great co-anchors? They do it on The View and Loose Women day in, day out, and Allison Hanmond and Josie Gbson's antics on ITV This Morning are endlessy hysterical Why can't CNN (namely Licht) drag himself out of the 1950s and into the modern age? It IS possible to present serious news and be entertaining.
Get rid of Licht before he destroys everything which makes CNN the best in America.

Our Cartoon President is an American adult animated satirical television series satirizing the first presidency of Donald Trump that premiered on February 11, 2018, and ended on November 8, 2020, on Showtime. The series was created by Stephen Colbert, Chris Licht, Matt Lappin, Tim Luecke, and RJ Fried and is based on a recurring segment from Colbert's late-night talk show The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
In August 2019, it was announced that the series had been renewed for a third and final season, which premiered on January 26, 2020.[1]
Licht was born in Switzerland,[2] to Susan Mary (Kneeland) and Dr. Peter David Licht of Newtown, Connecticut.[1][3][4] He graduated from Syracuse University's S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism and political science.[5][6][7] In 2014, one of the TV news control rooms at the Newhouse Studio and Innovation Center was named in his honor.[8]
CNN chairman and CEO
After the abrupt resignation of CNN president Jeff Zucker in February 2022, Licht was named his successor on February 26, 2022.[19][20][21]
On his first day as chairman and CEO of CNN, Licht sent a memo to all employees saying, "Sadly too many people have lost trust in the news media. I think we can be a beacon in regaining that trust by being an organization that exemplifies the best characteristics in journalism: fearlessly speaking truth to power, challenging the status quo, questioning ‘group-think’ and educating viewers and readers with straightforward facts and insightful commentary, while always being respectful of differing viewpoints. First and foremost, we should, and we will be advocates for truth."[22] One such method involves limiting CNN's use of the term "breaking news" to stories that have a significant importance.[23] Licht has expressed a desire to change negative perceptions of CNN among Republicans.[24]
In late 2022, Licht received criticism as CNN terminated the contracts of several long-time correspondents including Brian Stelter, John Harwood, and Jeffrey Toobin.[25] The Washington Post described the moves "as the latest evidence of a shift to a less politically charged tone under new leader Chris Licht."[25]
Licht was fired as CNN's president and CEO in June 2023 after The Atlantic revealed that employees had become unhappy with him over actions taken during his tenure.[26][27]
Post-CNN
Since departing CNN, Licht has kept a low profile. He's done some consulting and taught a class at Syracuse University on the future of media. Licht has not ruled out a return to the media business.[28]
...Urban, whom CNN has inexplicably continued to employ and allow on-air in the face of his numerous, undisclosed conflicts of interest, additionally warned that when Trump surrenders to authorities on June 13, “the Brooks Brothers Riot in 2000 ... will look like a Boy Scout camp compared to what is going to happen on Tuesday.” CNN also hosted one of Trump’s lawyers, James Trusty, to talk about the indictment before he quit representing Trump the following day.

Ousted CNN chief executive Chris Licht did exactly what his bosses wanted, ideologically repositioning the network in hopes of attracting Republican viewers. Now the network’s ratings are in the toilet, its reputation is damaged, and Licht is out after a devastating profile in The Atlantic — but there’s little reason to expect the situation to change.
Licht’s run at CNN ended on Wednesday after only 13 months. David Zaslav, the chief executive of CNN’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, reportedly told staff at a meeting announcing the change that Licht “poured his heart and soul into this job” but that ultimately “for a number of reasons things didn’t work out.” Media accounts of Licht’s dismissal invariably point to the impact of a brutal Atlantic profile published on Friday, which triggered a newsroom revolt.
In that Atlantic profile, staff writer Tim Alberta detailed “the meltdown at CNN” under Licht, who comes across as an underprepared and ineffectual network president who is trying to undertake a doomed mission he does not seem to fully understand. Alberta writes:
When he took the helm of CNN, in May 2022, Licht had promised a reset with Republican voters—and with their leader. He had swaggered into the job, telling his employees that the network had lost its way under former President Jeff Zucker, that their hostile approach to Trump had alienated a broader viewership that craved sober, fact-driven coverage. These assertions thrust Licht into a two-front war: fighting to win back Republicans who had written off the network while also fighting to win over his own journalists, many of whom believed that their new boss was scapegoating them to appease his new boss, David Zaslav, who’d hired Licht with a decree to move CNN toward the ideological center.
Zaslav’sdesire to remake CNN by moving it toward the ideological right is shared by John Malone, a major Republican donor and Warner Bros. Discovery board member who has said he would like the network to be more like Fox News.
Their shared approach, as implemented by Licht, damaged CNN’s reputation by giving the right what it wanted. Licht fired harsh critics of former President Donald Trump, cozied up to Republican leaders, and made clear that he wanted a return to “both sides” journalism.
His work culminated with last month’s live town hall with Trump, who steamrolled CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins with lies and called her a “nasty person” on-air, as the live audience of his supporters cheered. The event drew devastating reviews from journalists inside CNN and out — but Licht staunchly defended it to his staff, and indeed, it seemed entirely in keeping with Zaslav’s vision for the network.
This version of CNN isn’t just journalistically indefensible — it’s also failed to attract an audience. In theory, catering to Republicans was supposed to lure viewers away from more right-wing outlets. In reality, there isn’t an audience for Fox Light: CNN’s viewership withered under Licht as viewers switched to MSNBC or away from cable news altogether. Zaslav and Malone don’t seem to care — they just want CNN to meet their ideological demands.
And that’s why Licht’s departure won’t end CNN’s problems. His successor may be canny enough not to put their office on a separate floor from CNN’s journalists, or to treat a reporter writing a profile like a personal therapist. But that person will likely get the same demands from Zaslav and Malone to move the network toward the right and away from the truth, and try to follow them.

wednesday morning, June 7, CNN's Kate Bolduan made a bombshell announcement: CEO/Chairman Chris Licht "is leaving the network," and "for now," a new "leadership team" will "take Licht's place."
Licht held that position for a little over a year, declaring that he wanted to purge CNN of what he viewed as too much liberal bias. And he had more than his share of critics, who attacked Licht's leadership as change for the sake of change and saw him as being much too rigid and dogmatic in his centrism.
Licht, for example, reportedly disliked the term "the Big Lie" — which has been used to describe former President Donald Trump's false, thoroughly debunked claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him. While Licht considered "The Big Lie" a "Democratic talking point," his critics countered that the term was simply accurate, factual reporting — as Trump's claim of widespread voter fraud had zero basis in fact.

Liberal Washington Post opinion writer Perry Bacon, Jr. discusses Licht's departure in his June 7 column, arguing that his tumultuous months at CNN underscore the problems with "anti-woke centrism."
"Licht's comments embody an anti-woke centrism that is increasingly prominent in American media and politics today, particularly among powerful white men who live on the coasts and don't identify as Republicans or conservatives," Bacon explains. "It's deeply flawed, and it's pushing some important U.S. institutions to make bad decisions."
The Post columnist continues, "By anti-woke, what I mean is skepticism of progressive causes and ideas, especially on issues of gender, race and sexuality. The term 'woke' is vague and imprecise."
Bacon isn't saying that centrists shouldn't have a voice in the media or politics. And he draws a distinction between Licht's centrism and President Joe Biden's centrism, noting that Biden "opposes some left-wing causes but doesn't spend a lot of time deriding people who support them."

Bacon observes, "Anti-woke centrism is really about emphasizing differences with progressives, who are inaccurately cast as Twitter-obsessed college graduates who constantly use terms like Latinx and are out of touch with ordinary Democratic voters…. Licht and Elon Musk, who has expressed similar sentiments, control two hugely important media platforms. Their views matter. That they have become consumed by this anti-wokeism has meant that great journalists were fired at CNN for being too anti-Trump and that Twitter's verification system was disabled, it seemed, because Musk felt it gave too much prominence to left-wing people."
