Like most major corporations, Facebook has assembled a powerful lobbying operation to advance its interests in Washington. The company spent just over $ 13 million (approximately Rs. 84 crores) on lobbying in 2017, and most of the money was spent on an internal lobbyist team that is stocked with former Republican and Democratic political advisors, according to records from disclosure submitted to the House and Senate.

The company sought to influence a variety of issues ranging from potential changes to government oversight programs to corporate tax issues. One of the team's newest members, Sandra Luff, was a national security adviser to Attorney General Jeff Sessions when he served in the Senate.

Facebook also employs a small army of external lobbyists. Among them is Harbinger Strategies, which obtained $ 240,000 (approximately Rs. 1.5 crores) last year and deployed four former Capitol Hill employees to promote Facebook's interests while lawmakers debated new tax legislation, cybersecurity and advertising in line.
