Rob Schneider, the 62-year-old former 'Saturday Night Live' star turned conservative activist, has become the latest public figure to advocate for mandatory military conscription—despite never serving in the armed forces himself.

In a lengthy social media post, Schneider invoked President John F. Kennedy's famous words about public service before pivoting to his central argument: America should reinstate the military draft for all citizens aged 18 and older.

"Each and every American, at eighteen years of age, must serve two years of military service," Schneider wrote, suggesting that young people could fulfill this obligation either domestically or through overseas deployment.

The actor's proposal comes as the Trump administration wages war in Iran—a conflict that has raised concerns about potential conscription among younger Americans. The irony is notable: both Schneider and President Trump have avoided military service throughout their lives. Trump famously received multiple draft deferrals during the Vietnam War era.

Schneider's argument centers on the idea that shared military service would create social cohesion across racial and socioeconomic lines. More significantly, he suggests it would make elected officials more cautious about military commitments if their own children were subject to the draft.

"If our elected officials knew their own sons and daughters would be serving, they would think twice before sending troops to war," is the underlying logic of Schneider's position.

The proposal raises questions about who bears the burden of national defense. Schneider's own family illustrates this tension: his younger daughters would become eligible for conscription under his proposed system, while he himself has never worn a military uniform. His eldest daughter has publicly criticized his political views.

Schneider's evolution from Democrat to Republican occurred in 2013. He has since become known for anti-vaccine activism and enthusiastic support for conservative political candidates. He backed Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s 2024 presidential campaignand subsequently became an ardent Trump supporter.

Backlash from MAHA influencers and right-leaning podcasters over glyphosate is loud, but they still stop short of breaking with Trump

Despite calling the policy an “F-you to the MAHA movement,” influencers are maintaining alignment with Trump and RFK Jr.

Backlash from “Make America Healthy Again” influencers and right-leaning podcasters over the Trump administration’s February 18 executive order boosting domestic glyphosate production — the herbicide used in Roundup and widely identified by scientists as a carcinogen — has been loud and, at times, profane. But even when the policy is described as a betrayal, criticism is rarely directed at President Donald Trump or Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., instead being redirected in ways that preserve alignment with the administration.

During the March 23 episode of *The Shawn Ryan Show*, right-leaning podcast host Shawn Ryan expressed deep frustration with the executive order, saying, “Thank you, Trump. Thank you, RFK. Good fucking job. Way to fucking stick to your constituents.”

“Every fucking thing that came out of these guys' mouth is a fucking lie,” Ryan continued. “It makes me think, what is the fucking point of voting?”

He reiterated his frustration during the March 26 episode, questioning the administration's national security rationale for the order.

Ryan's anger stands out because he directly assigns responsibility to Trump and Kennedy for the administration's actions on glyphosate. But across the Make America Healthy Again movement, backlash to the order has largely followed a different pattern: Among right-leaning influencers and podcasters, criticism is severe, but responsibility is redirected away from Trump and Kennedy.

This dynamic isn’t new. MAHA influencers have repeatedly expressed outrage over the administration’s pesticide policy while failing to hold Trump or Kennedy accountable. Moms Across America founder Zen Honeycutt called the order “an egregious offense” and “a betrayal,” while adding that “Bobby is not in charge of Trump.” Food activist Vani Hari described “a level of anger and frustration like I’ve never witnessed before,” but noted, “Secretary Kennedy has done everything he said he’s going to do.” In February, podcaster Joe Rogan complained about glyphosate’s harms without directly referencing the administration's role in expanding its use.

The pattern became especially clear across multiple shows more recently. During the March 19 episode of *Critically Thinking with Dr. T and Dr. P*, Honeycutt said Trump’s glyphosate executive order “made me sick to my stomach,” called it “outrageous,” and said it was “an F-you to the MAHA movement.” But even as she condemned the policy, Honeycutt framed it as the product of pressure on Trump rather than a decision he owns. She pointed to chemical companies and people in his orbit, suggested he had been influenced or coerced, and ultimately returned to a message about consumer pressure and farmers choosing not to use glyphosate.

aha // DEEP STATE BS?

The same pattern reappeared on Rogan’s podcast that week. During the March 19 episode of *The Joe Rogan Experience*, Rogan acknowledged that “Trump passed an executive order” blocking efforts to restrict glyphosate use, but did not directly criticize him. Instead, he returned to familiar warnings about glyphosate, suggesting long-term exposure “can’t be good.”

During a March 20 appearance on *American Thought Leaders*, actor and MAHA supporter Rob Schneider criticized the administration’s move on glyphosate more directly. He said he was “very much angry” about the policy and accused the administration of giving Bayer protection for a “known cancer-causing agent.” But Schneider did not treat that anger as reason to break with Trump. Instead, he pointed to “captured agencies,” corporate influence, and a political system shaped by corporate power, while also describing himself as “a big fan of this administration.”

Across most of these examples, the criticism is severe, but responsibility is displaced, preserving alignment despite direct policy conflict. The policy can be described as dangerous — or even a “betrayal” — but the decision is attributed to external pressure, institutional capture, or surrounding actors rather than Trump himself.

The result is a movement willing to call the policy a betrayal without fully treating it as one

Comedian Rob Schneider urges fellow RFK supporters to vote Trump, slams Democrats in scathing message | Fox News

aug 2024?

Comedian Rob Schneider urged "Robert Kennedy Jr. supporters and American Citizens" to support former President Trump as the independent candidate suspended his campaign on Friday.

Schneider took to social media to post a lengthy message shortly before Kennedy officially announced he would suspend his campaign and endorse Trump in November’s presidential election. The "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo" star penned a scathing message, with Trump-style capitalization to emphasize certain words and phrases.

"Dear Fellow Robert Kennedy Jr. supporters and American Citizens, as we have seen this week, ONCE AGAIN the Democratic Party is NOT running on any ideas to make American’s lives better, they are once again running on the hatred of one individual, Donald J Trump," Schneider wrote.

Comedian Rob Schneider urged "Robert Kennedy Jr. supporters and American Citizens" to support former President Trump because Democrats are "running on the hatred of one individual." (Mike Coppola / Staff | Michael M. Santiago / Staff)

"And they are hoping that YOU will HATE him so much that you will forget about the Democrat’s FOREVER WARS that are pushing the world closer to World War III," he continued. "They are hoping that you forget about your grocery bills being 26% higher since Biden/Harris took office."

Schneider then said Democrats are hoping Americans forget a variety of issues, accusing the Biden-Harris administration of pushing censorship, working to silence anyone who spoke out against COVID vaccines or policies, firing federal workers who refused the vaccine, forcing masks on young children, shuttering small businesses, pushing "gender madness of child mutilation surgeries," opening the southern border, and flooding American cities with migrants and fentanyl.

Schneider then took aim at the Democratic Party’s history of bashing Trump supporters, and criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for replacing President Biden on the ticket without going through a formal primary.

"The Democrats CALLED TRUMP ‘HITLER’ and half the CITIZENS of our country ‘MAGATS’ and DEPLORABLES, INCITING HATRED AND THE ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION OF A FORMER PRESIDENT," the comedian wrote.

DOES KENNEDY'S DEPARTURE FROM THE 2024 RACE HELP TRUMP MORE THAN HARRIS?

"The Democrats cry of ‘SAVING DEMOCRACY’ as they DISCARD the 14 MILLION DEMOCRATS WHO VOTED FOR BIDEN IN THE PRIMARY, effecting a COUP, pushing OUT A DULY ELECTED PRESIDENT and much like the SOVIET POLITBURO, INSTALLING THEIR NEW PUPPET LEADER who had the LOWEST APPROVAL RATING OF ANY FORMER VICE PRESIDENT and who has still REFUSED to take ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE PRESS," Schneider continued. "YES, the Democrats are hoping that you HATE TRUMP more than YOU LOVE YOUR COUNTRY AND YOUR FREE SPEECH, YOUR CHILDREN’S EDUCATION AND SAFETY AND YOUR FREEDOMS."

Schneider said Kennedy supporting Trump is simply "a rejection of the authoritarian and serial undemocratic actions of the [Democrat] machine."

"As a fellow American Citizen and Robert Kennedy Jr. supporter, I hope that you will OPPOSE TYRANNY and join us and VOTE FOR DONALD J. TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," Schneider wrote, concluding his message with an image of the American flag.

Anti-fascist protesters clash with attendees outside Turning Point event at UC Berkeley

Skirmishes led to at least three arrests, as protesters traded jeers with those attending the event — held two months after Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

by Natalie Orenstein

:{:{Nov. 10, 2025,}:

We work for you — reporting on the stories our community needs. Our journalists attend city council and school board meetings, follow tips and make the calls to keep you informed on the important issues in Berkeley. Will you chip in today to support that work during our year-end fundraising campaign?

Dozens of anti-fascist protesters, some with faces wrapped in keffiyehs, pulled out microphones and noisemakers, crowding in on the people in Jesus shirts and MAGA hats lined up early to catch the final stop of Turning Point USA’s fall campus tour following the assassination of its founder Charlie Kirk at a Utah Valley University event two months ago.

As Kirk’s fans waited to enter Zellerbach Hall on Bancroft Way, some hoping to claim standby tickets, protesters alternated chants: “No Trump, No KKK, no fascist USA” with “antisemites, go home,” and, “Fuck your dead homie,” a reference to Kirk.

Around 5 p.m., a clash quickly broke out on Bancroft Way between the protesters and a man selling Kirk memorial “Freedom” t-shirts. The quick skirmish seemingly ended in the detention by Berkeley police of both the t-shirt vendor and a protester with whom he had fought. (It wasn’t immediately clear what set off the confrontation.)

“I was gay until Charlie Kirk showed me the way!” the vendor yelled.

About a dozen Berkeley police in helmets corralled the crowd, while a number of UCPD officers stood at the ready inside the Zellerbach Hall plaza. Private security guards screened attendees as they entered the plaza. Nearby, two police officers held pepper ball launchers aimed at protesters.

As attendees filed into the event, about 20 UCPD officers wearing riot gear and holding zip ties lined up outside Eshleman Hall — about 100 feet from an ongoing protest that alternated between a dance party vibe and screaming matches between protesters and those lining up for the event. One man in a freedom shirt screamed out, “Spray them, tase them, lock them up,” encouraging police to arrest anti-fascist protesters.

During the speech, a crowd of about 200-300 remained outside the venue, facing off with law enforcement officers with BPD, UCPD and the California Highway Patrol.

The event, held before a packed crowd, many wearing freedom shirts and MAGA hats, wrapped up without disruption shortly before 9 p.m.

The event ended somewhat less dramatically than it began. By the time it began letting out, protesters had surrounded all four exit points, and yelled insults and chants at both the police and attendees. Some attendees screamed back at them as they walked out, but most filed out quickly without making eye contact as officers created a barrier between them and the protesters.

By 9:30 p.m., police seemed to outnumber protesters, and most of the activity had died down. The crowd outside of Yogurt Park was larger than the group still near the venue.

There were three arrests in total as of just after 7 p.m., according to a UC Berkeley spokesperson, two made by Berkeley police officers and one by UC police. Berkeley police spokesperson Byron White said one of the arrests was on suspicion of battery, but did not say what prompted the other arrest. Neither spokesperson shared further information about the arrests.

There were many disagreements among the protesters on the left, some intentionally provoking people coming to see the Turning Point event, and others pleading with each other not to engage. “This is what they want — they want to see fights,” one protester told another.

Early Monday morning, UC police arrested four students on suspicion of felony vandalism, as they allegedly attempted to hang a large cardboard insect on Sather Gate and hung posters advertising a protest of the Turning Point event, highlighting incendiary quotes of Kirk’s.

Kirk was an adversary of the left because of his often overtly racist, misogynist, homophobic and xenophobic messaging, which ranged from calling the Civil Rights Act a “huge mistake” to claiming that birth control creates “bitter young women.”

Kirk launched Turning Point USA in 2012, aiming to spread conservatism at college and high school campuses. The organization takes aim at what they see as dominant liberal thinking and stymying of conservative students by universities, including keeping a “professor watchlist,” seeking to “expose and document college professors who discriminate against conservative students and advance leftist propaganda.” (Some professors on other campuses have seen an uptick in threats against their safety since Kirk’s death.)

Headline speakers are Rob Schneider and Frank Turek

Kirk was originally scheduled to headline the Berkeley stop, debating students outdoors with his signature “Prove Me Wrong” format.

In his place, Christian apologist and Kirk mentor Frank Turek and comedian Rob Schneider gave addresses. Also speaking were comedian Jobob Taeleifi; Andrew Doyle, author of the book “Free Speech and Why it Matters”; philosopher Peter Boghossian; and John Paul Leon, the president of UC Berkeley’s Turning Point chapter, who came on stage doing a Trump dance.

Turek, who was present when Kirk was assassinated, compared Kirk to Christ, saying he was martyred, and said he’s gotten emails from people in Sweden saying they’ve converted to Christianity because of Kirk’s death.

“The folks here at Berkeley are big into justice,” he said. “There is no justice unless God exists, there are no rights unless God exists.”

Many of the speakers criticized the protests in their remarks, arguing it was demonstrative of an opposition to free speech on the left.

Schneider, who rose to fame via Saturday Night Live and his sidekick roles in Adam Sandler movies, began by thanking “antifa” for their welcome outside and said protesters were coming from a place of emotion rather than reason. “We must be awake, we must be aware, and we must fight for” freedom, he said.

He also took a swipe at Berkeley. “Berkeley claims to be a liberal town,” he said. “They claim to want affordable housing. They have vacant lots they can build on, but they always get stopped. Why? Because they want affordability, just not in our backyard.”

Schneider’s comments don’t reflect Berkeley’s current housing politics: While the city’s often fraught debates over development once drew national attention, many of its leaders have come to embrace housing construction, and candidates endorsed by Yes-In-My-Backyard advocacy groups hold a majority on the City Council. Housing production has swelled to its highest levels in decades, according to data submitted to state regulators.

While some Cal students were in attendance, many came from other universities or were non-students excited about the one California event on tour.

A number of people in line for the event Monday said they’d driven as far as five hours because they’re big fans of Kirk. Ella Klosek, 18, said she and her boyfriend had driven from Santa Maria to Sacramento Sunday to stay with family before coming to the event.

Like many of those who spoke to Berkeleyside, she said Kirk’s religious beliefs, not explicitly his politics, drew her to follow his work. She said his “traditional family values” inspired her — “what it looks like to be a godly husband or wife.”

The event was moved indoors for safety reasons, Leon told CalMatters.

He said the chapter’s membership has grown significantly since Kirk’s assassination.

The shooting also prompted UC President James B. Milliken to contact all UC chancellors, urging them to review their events policies and increase security measures.

“Universities are places where civil discussion and debate can and should occur, without the fear or threat of harm,” Milliken wrote.

Assistant Vice Chancellor Dan Mogulof declined to share details on the security plan ahead of Monday’s event, citing “obvious reasons.”

But he said the university’s Major Events policy applied due to the size of the gathering. That policy requires extra preparation by the student group hosting the event — in this case the Berkeley chapter of Turning Point — and triggers increased security. He said it would be several weeks before the total cost of the event to the university can be tallied and shared.

In addition to the protocols outlined in the plan, Turning Point is banning attendees from bringing bags inside the venue.

“UC Berkeley always works to support the rights and ability of all speakers to participate in events hosted by student organizations without regard for their beliefs and perspectives,” Mogulof said.

Monday arrests echo battles over far-right speakers during Trump’s first term

Questions around controversial campus events and the university’s role in supporting or derailing them came to a head during the first Trump presidency.

In February 2017, when the Berkeley College Republicans brought far-right speaker Milo Yiannopoulos to Cal, about 150 activists — many identifying as “black bloc” antifa — descended on campus, setting fire to portable lights, throwing Molotov cocktails, and ultimately leading to the cancelation of the event.

The dramatic incident put a target on Cal and the city of Berkeley’s back. Repeated protests by largely non-student, conservative demonstrators overtook city parks and streets. At these events throughout 2017, “alt-right” activists, including members of now-prominent groups like the Proud Boys, duked it out with antifa and other counter-protesters on the left, with many skirmishes turning into bloody brawls and ending in injuries and arrests.

When the Berkeley College Republicans invited Ann Coulter to campus, UC Berkeley initially canceled the engagement, citing safety concerns given the violent protests happening at the school and city, then offered an alternative date.

A protester dressed in an animal costume outside Zellerbach Hall. One group of Bay Area activists described the protest they planned before the event as “our costume dance party for justice.” Credit: Richard H. Grant for Berkeleyside

The student group sued the university in response, claiming the administration was intentionally stifling conservative speech. The lawsuit ended in a settlement in 2018, with Cal agreeing to amend its events policy and pay attorney fees. But that agreement came after another attempt by the Berkeley College Republicans to “test” the university by inviting right-wing personality Ben Shapiro to campus. That event, also at Zellberbach, cost UC Berkeley $600,000 in security costs.

Just a couple of weeks later, Cal spent $800,000 on Yiannopoulos’ return to campus, which Mogulof at the time called “the most expensive photo-op in the university’s history.”

The current Major Events policy requires student or outside event hosts, in this case Turning Point, to pay for the venue rental, insurance, and “basic” but not “extraordinary” security costs.

Another, more recent event at Zellerbach also resulted in protests and cancellation. About 200 pro-Palestine demonstrators shut down a talk by conservative Israeli attorney Ran Bar-Yoshafat in February 2024, which was organized by pro-Israel student groups.

Two months after the fatal shooting of TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, the final stop of the controversial college speaking tour happened Monday at UC Berkeley and was met by over 100 protesters looking to voice dissatisfaction about the organization and overall conservative movement.

The event and protests remained relatively peaceful, but multiple people were taken into custody by police. Two of those individuals were in a physical altercation that left one of them bloodied in the face before being separated by Berkeley police and placed into separate vehicles.

The brawl occurred after a protester allegedly threw the merchandise the Kirk supporter was selling onto the floor. As the argument between both men became physical, they began to fight by Bancroft Way. Police created a perimeter around the fight that blocked traffic for several city blocks.

A car later traveled down Bancroft with the sound of loud banging trailing behind it, which spooked many protesters. The vehicle then stopped across from the gathering of over one hundred and proceeded to produce vast amounts of smoke and loud bangs. The vehicle then sped away, a police car in pursuit.

Turning Point USA is a nonprofit conservative advocacy group that has found a foothold across many college campuses. The chapter at UC Berkeley was founded in 2019 and has quickly become a vocal conservative group on a campus known for its largely progressive student body.

Protests against TPUSA's event were organized by several groups. Activists like By Any Means Necessary showed up with megaphones and signs in an attempt to disrupt the event and show the university that they didn't like TPUSA's presence.

UC Berkeley administrators have historically not set limits on what groups can come on to campus to speak. Campus spokesperson Dan Mogulof said the university worked with the school's chapter of Turning Point USA to ensure they could conduct their event safely.

"UC Berkeley always works to support the rights and ability of all speakers to participate in events hosted by student organizations without regard for their beliefs and perspectives," said Mogulof in an email. "The campus relies on the professional security assessments and recommendations provided by UCPD so that events sponsored by student organizations can be held successfully and safely."

In preparation for the event, the university closed four adjacent buildings as a precaution and created five points of entry and exit that could be monitored by dozens of police and security forces. Private security was joined by law enforcement from the University of California Police Department, Berkeley and San Francisco police departments, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, and the California Highway Patrol.

Student Anna Martinez found the presence of Turning Point USA advocates disruptive and said she was disappointed to see that a building she needed to enter was blocked due to the event.

"All of these student buildings are closed so a group of conservative speakers can feel safe, when we students don't feel safe when they come here," Martinez said.

On the day of the event, both protesters and attendees traveled from across the state, with some coming as far as the Central Valley or Lake Tahoe.

Mario Fierro from Visalia said he wanted to show up and support TPUSA because he feels the conservative movement in California has been forgotten about.

"California is a diverse place, but there's still a place for conservative people and conservative values that we uphold," said Fierro. "We come willing, open-armed, willing to converse and willing to engage with the other side and hopefully do everything peaceful."

Grace Fortune, a high school teacher from Lodi, said she wanted to attend the event because she feels TPUSA supports her Christian faith.

"Ever since Charlie Kirk got assassinated, I support them," she said. "There should be clubs for anyone you know that can be proud of what they believe in and not feel ashamed for what they believe in."

Fortune said that the politics were not as important to her as what she said Kirk's Christian message was.

"It was more about the faith in Christ and being proud and courageous about his faith in Christ," she said.

The rest of the night remained relatively free of violence, but the tension between police and protesters was palpable. Police would swap positions in regular intervals and would hold their batons in case protesters broke across the barricade, while other officers waited to the side with empty projectile firearms.

On the opposite side, protesters chanted things like "fascists are not welcome here!" and "hey hey! Ho ho! Fascists have got to go!" directly into the faces of the police officers. They held steady with their chanting and occasionally paused to boo and yell "shame" at the officers.

Protester Christopher Jones decided to show up because the type of speech TPUSA promotes helps fuel hatred and bigotry, he said.

"Do we have free speech? Yes. But that doesn't mean we want hate speech to come to this campus and be full of rhetoric that targets those most vulnerable," said Jones. "It's a mockery to have them come here and say they are nonviolent when their very words create harm across the country."

What I saw at the Moms for Liberty summit: a diminished and desperate group

Written by Olivia Little

Research contributions from Madeline Peltz

Published 09/06/24

Scandal, school board election failures, and a disastrous 60 Minutes interview appear to have diminished Moms for Liberty’s once powerful influence, and last weekend’s summit provided plenty of additional evidence that the group is currently flailing.

Nearly every Republican presidential hopeful and a number of right-wing giants spoke at Moms for Liberty’s lively summit last year. But this year’s gathering was comparatively small, with far fewer panels and a weaker speaker lineup. In fact, Glenn Beck and D-list comedian Rob Schneider were advertised as the star headliners until the exceptionally late addition of former President Donald Trump just days before the event.

This is the second year that my colleague Madeline Peltz and I attended Moms for Liberty’s summit. It was immediately apparent to us that the small crowd had seemingly been reduced to largely die-hard members who, unlike many, remained loyal to Moms for Liberty through its year of scandal and failure. Co-founder Tina Descovich acknowledged that the organization was losing some support while presenting an award, saying, “You have been a friend to Moms for Liberty when some have stepped away.”

A quick recap of Moms for Liberty’s really rough year

Invoking transgender panic}:

Much of the conference was spent attempting to terrify parents into believing that schools are secretly grooming, manipulating, and transitioning students. The bag handed to us at registration included an illustrated flyer laying out the ridiculous “school to clinic pipeline,” which, according to the flyer, begins at “pronouns” and ends in a hospital.

Almost every speaker we listened to incorporated transgender panic into their speech. One panel was even titled “Protecting Kids from Secret Gender Transitions in Schools.”

In a panel condemning Title IX’s protection of students from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, attorneys encouraged parents to file complaints with the Department of Education to put “sand in the regulatory gears for this administration” because each report has to be investigated and filing more will create a backlog.

Each year, members of Moms for Liberty from across the country are nominated for the group’s Founders Awards. These awards, named after notable women, are presented at their annual summit. Ironically, one of this year’s awards was named after Deborah Sampson, a woman “so invested in the cause of liberty that she disguised herself as a man and fought in the Revolutionary War.”

Spiritual warfare is anything you want it to be

“This is spiritual warfare,” said far-right political commentator Sebastian Gorka at Friday’s lunch session, “and they are on the side of the devil.”

Speakers repeated vague accusations of “spiritual warfare” throughout the weekend. Even comedian-turned-conservative-activist Rob Schneider accused the pharmaceutical industry of engaging in spiritual warfare.

Religious scholar Brad Onishi describes the concept of spiritual warfare as the idea that Christians are called to fight a “cosmic battle between good and evil.” It’s a belief that Christians face a constant war against Satan and his minions.

In recent years, right-wing figures have increasingly invoked the phrase to describe and condemn anyone or anything they disagree with. Trump’s indictment, Democrats, transgender identities, the Olympics opening ceremony — all “spiritual warfare.”

The summit’s itinerary included the March for Kids, an event promoting parental rights with coalition partners such as Gays Against Groomers and PragerU. (It’s worth noting that the March for Kids wasn’t actually a march, but a largely empty assembly at DAR Constitution Hall.)

March for Kids speaker Naomi Van Wyk used the rhetoric of spiritual warfare to describe homosexuality and encouraged intervention to alter same-sex attraction, promoting a form of conversion therapy.

Van Wyk testified that Jesus set her “free from same-sex attraction,” describing it as “a demonic spiritual attack.” Again and again, she described homosexuality as “demonic” and advocated for parents to convert their LGBTQ children.

The Heritage Foundation was one of the earliest supporters of Moms for Liberty and, in turn, the group fell in line with Heritage’s policy priorities and shepherded members toward the think tank’s “resources for parents.” In 2022, Moms for Liberty was the recipient of Heritage’s Salvatori Prize for American Citizenship and Heritage President Kevin Robertsspoke at the group’s 2023 summit. In a breakout session last year, anti-trans activist “Billboard Chris” Elston revealed that The Heritage Foundation had identified and brought together 40 people, including him, in March 2022 to “fight gender ideology.”

This year’s summit was saturated with an array of Heritage employees, alumni, and partners. Notably, Lindsey Burke, Director of the Center for Education Policy at The Heritage Foundation and author of Project 2025’s extreme right-wing education policy plan, led a panel advocating for the abolition of the Department of Education.

Project 2025 is a right-wing initiative organized by The Heritage Foundation to provide policy and personnel to the next Republican administration. Moms for Liberty is a partner with Project 2025, and The Heritage Foundation recruited members to participate in Project 2025 at last year’s summit.

Citation Project 2025 pamphlet received at Moms for Liberty's 2023 summit

Despite massive right-wing support, Moms for Liberty is clearly floundering. This year’s summit was disorganized, small, and weird.

:{:{Sebastian Gorka haunted the convention hall all weekend, occasionally appearing on stage to theorize about whether the assassination attempt on Trump was an inside job, yell about spiritual warfare, or lament about “political prisoner” Steve Bannon.}:

Far-right author James Lindsay won “The Liberty Sword” and was introduced as “Moms for Liberty’s favorite lady killer” when presented with the award. Even Trump’s appearance was odd. Instead of a traditional speech, he sat down with Justice and spoke at length about varying topics, including The Apprentice and Scotland.}:

I was one of the first to write about Moms for Liberty when the group launched in 2021 and have spent the last several years documenting the group’s meteoric rise. But Moms for Liberty seems to be in danger of burning out just as quickly.

The Red-Pilling of Rob Schneider: A Complete Timeline

The 'Hot Chick' star, who's now stumping for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has completed the arc as an anti-vaxxer

Back in the halcyon days of the early 2010s, Rob Schneider was perhaps best known for being a Saturday Night Live alum, one of Adam Sandler’s BFFs, and the star of the (underrated) The Hot Chick and the (completely fairly rated) Deuce Bigalow franchise. Today, however, he’s probably best known for being red-pilled as fuck.

Every once in a while, Schneider emerges in the public consciousness to remind us of his existence, either by saying something insane about vaccines or Joe Biden or gender-affirming care or appearing as a parenthetical in profiles of his daughter, musician Elle King. Earlier this week, he once again appeared in the news cycle by posting a photo on Twitter with presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is well-known for sharing Schneider’s anti-vaccine views. “Inspiring, hopeful, courageous and most importantly (like his father) compassionate,” Schneider wrote in the caption.

So how did a member of the (in MAGA-head voice) “Hollywood media elite” become so red-pilled, seemingly overnight? We may never know for certain, as a representative for Schneider did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment. But as is the case with most political trajectories, it appears that Schneider’s shift to the right was far less abrupt than it appears at first blush.

Below is a thorough timeline of the radicalization of the Makin’ Copies guy.

2012

Schneider speaks at a protest against AB2019, a California bill requiring a medical provider’s approval for child vaccine exemptions. “At a certain point, you have to draw a line in the sand, and people have to put their hands up and be counted for,” he says in front of the crowd regarding the bill. In an interview with News10 Sacramento, which appears to have since been taken down for violating YouTube community guidelines, Schneider regurgitates many conspiracy theorist talking points about mandatory childhood vaccines. “The efficacy of these shots have not been proven,” he said. “And the toxicity of these things — we’re having more and more side effects. We’re having more and more autism.” (Any supposed links between autism and vaccines are based on faulty and discredited data and have been debunked time and time again.)

}:

2013

Schneider endorses then-Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim Donnelly, a former member of the anti-immigrant Minutemen border patrol group who would later go on to accuse Obama of “secretly” practicing Islam. In the video, he self-identifies as a “lifelong Democrat,” endorsing Donnelly due to overregulation pushed by California Democrats. “The Democrats and my party have abandoned me,” he says in the video. “So I abandoned them.” The Washington Times later reports that Schneider also takes issue with his home state overregulating his vitamin business.

2014

Schneider enters the “find out” phase of his red-pilling, with the insurance company State Farm pulling an ad featuring the actor following pressure from childhood vaccination groups. “This particular ad has unintentionally been used as a platform for discussion, unrelated to the products and services we provide,” the company told the Hollywood Reporter at the time. “With that, we are working to remove the ad from our rotation at this time.” Following the debacle, Schneider doubled down, tweeting a quote from George Washington and writing, “Thanks to all my supporters who believe as I do that parents should decide what’s in the best interests of their child, not Gov’t mandates.”

2015

Amid a highly covered measles outbreak in California, Schneider calls then-Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, a proponent of a bill barring personal belief vaccine exemptions for children attending school in California, and says he plans to spend “a lot of money” against her campaign. Gonzalez later tells a local news reporter she finds the call “disturbing.”

2016

In the past, Schneider had been critical of his former Home Alone 2: Lost in New York co-star Donald Trump, writing in a 2015 Facebook post in response to Trump’s plan to build a wall to halt immigration from Mexico, “Dear Donald Trump, one thing I’ve learned from marrying a Mexican woman and having a Mexican suegra [mother-in-law] is DON’T PISS OFF MEXICANS!” He also maintained in a 2019 interview that he was “not a fan” and that he could think of “10,000 people I would prefer to be president than Donald Trump.” In 2023, however, Schneider reveals in his Fox Nation stand-up special that he voted for Trump in the 2016 election, jokingly stating he had sent “three or four … five at the most” ballots for the candidate.

2017

In an interview with Larry King, Schneider clarifies his political affiliation, saying he is an “independent” but is “definitely more conservative now” due to his opposition to “any form of taking away people’s rights.” “There is a push and a constriction of freedom that is coming from the left now,” he says. Schneider does not explicitly reference this in the interview, but this stance is possibly prompted by the virulently negative social media response to remarks he made that January, criticizing Rep. John Lewis’ boycott of Trump’s inauguration, resulting in actor Wil Wheaton tweeting, “Rob Schneider lecturing @repjohnlewis is the most embarrassing thing he’s ever done. Yes, this includes The Animal.“

2019

Schneider resurrects his beef with Assemblywoman Gonzalez over SB 276, a bill that further limits vaccine exemptions without approval from a medical provider. “Respectfully,

Either accept my offer to debate you on the merits of sb276 or refuse and kill this awful piece of Government OverReach and admit that the PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN and want to KEEP MEDICAL DECISIONS MADE BY PARENTS NOT FACELESS BUREAUCRATS,” Schneider tweets to Gonzalez in July. The bill is signed into law a few months later, but not before fellow celebrities Jessica Biel and the aforementioned RFK Jr. join Schneider in publicly lobbying against it.

Schneider also defends comics Louis C.K. and Kevin Hart after both come under fire for, respectively, joking about the Parkland shooting survivors and making homophobic comments in old tweets, which cost Hart an Oscars host gig. “Free Louis C.K.! Jokes are words you fcking moron cnts,” Schneider tweets in defense of the former before claiming he would boycott the Oscars this year if Hart is not reinstated as host. (He is not.)

2020

In an interview with the website Fatherly, Schneider says he still identifies as a “classic liberal” who was for “equal rights, equal pay, civil rights, gay rights,” but maintains he takes issue with “cancel culture” and Hollywood’s left-wing bias. “If you make fun of liberals, you’re going to get attacked,” he says. “If you make fun of conservatives, you get branded as a stereotypical Hollywood person. I try to make fun of both.”

2021

Like many Americans, Schneider appears to have been further radicalized by the Covid-19 pandemic and the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine. In February, he posts a critique of California public school safety measures on Twitter, likening a teacher separating children’s desks with Plexiglas to “a new kind of child abuse.” In July, he posts on Twitter discouraging his followers from getting the vaccine, urging them to “just say no.” “Over Half of the US population is continuing to say no to this unapproved experimental gene therapy! ‘My body, my choice!'” He concludes his tweet by bizarrely invoking the second amendment.

2022

In September, Schneider appears on Glenn Beck’s podcast and casts himself as something of a martyr to the right-wing cause: “I don’t care about my career anymore,” he says on the podcast. “I care about my children, the country that they’re gonna live in.” He then launches into an anecdote about World War II fighter pilots sacrificing their lives to prevent “stepping back into the darkest parts of humanity.” His remarks are met with bemusement on social media, with one pundit commenting, “Rob Schneider saying he doesn’t care if he loses his career is like me saying I don’t care if I get fat — it happened long ago.”

In an appearance on Fox and Friends later that year, Schneider echoes this sentiment, hinting that his friends in Hollywood share his views, “but they are really scared of it [talking about it] because there is like a mob ideologues that will attack you.” Many on social media assume he is referring to Adam Sandler, who has cast Schneider in many of his films (and donated to Rudy Giuliani’s campaign in 2007), but Sandler has never publicly spoken about his political views.

'Reagan' Is Everything the Right Gets Wrong About Art

2023

Schneider completes his arc as a right-wing influencer, airing a poorly reviewed stand-up special, Rob Schneider: Woke Up in America, on Fox Nation in June. The special features jokes about Biden, his pronouns (“hee” and “haw”), and the right-wing discourse regarding transgender rights. “Everybody knows what a woman is. A woman is someone who gets mad at you for something you did three fucking years ago,” he says in the special. “Biological fact.” Charming.
