Simanda River Valley
The Simanda is the largest of the river valleys of the Veldt. Flowing in a long curving route, it can be generally broken into three sections.
Upper Simanda: From its source in the Kael Mountains up till Afyon and the Wellsprings, it collects many tributaries as it flows through the foothills, but all of which remain very intermittent streams, usually lowering to trickles in late summer and swelling significantly in the spring and rainy seasons. (Cosumnes River)
Middle Simanda: From Afyon up to the Simanda Water Gap, where the river weaves its way in a broad but challow sunken floodplain. The bluffs surrounding the river vally make for a very pleasant microclimate, which hosts many scattered marshes and woodlands, ideal for Au'Kael bands to make camp and gather resources. Closer to Afyon, the river valley is also home to farming settlements that grow food to support the city. These communities are either built on the bluffs, on mounds above the floodplain, or are just semi-permanent camps that can be moved when waters rise. (Upper Missouri)
Lower Simanda: The shortest stretch of the river, at only a few dozen kilometers long at most. The river passes through the coastal hills via the water gap, and then enters a shallow, marshy estuary that takes it all the way to the sea.
