The Kilns
Located on the bluffs above the river, these beehive-shaped domes made of white stones are large charcoal ovens. Charcoal was highly prized in the Veldt as fuel, being much lighter and easier to transport than wood. Charcoal was especiall in demand in Afyon for use in the glass furnaces and other industries located there. With Blackford being at the intersection of the Trunk Road Cuttoff and the termination of the River Road, it was easily placed so lumber merchants from the Kael Mountains, Mayra, and Red Hills to sell logs, which went into the kilns.
