Four times per year, when the Roia align horizontally and vertically, at the setting of the Roia, floating lanterns are set off into the air to represent the souls of the dead parting from the world. It is believed that these lanterns float off to the Illek.

To return the body and soul to the Lights of the Alru, the Source of Magic and Life, the body is cremated, and the ashes placed in a tightly woven cloth bag, attached to a floating candle (similar to Chinese flying candle torches). This ceremony is performed, at various fees, by the Church of the Alru, the largest religion of the Avel. A special type of candle is used for this ceremony.
A body is not buried.
